How does it compare to the Yamaha receivers at Costco?

Dang I've been looking for a receiver with 2 HDMI outs for under $400. This fits the bill. Might have to bite. Anyone know if you can use an rca source like a Wii, and output it via hdmi? I guess it has to upscale?

yes, you would want to use component input 480p cable from the wii to the receiver, then it will upscale via hdmi to the television.

Cool thanks! Decided to get it. My first receiver, and it fit my features and budget.

Edit: Sounds like this may not be the case. Another user pointed out documentation states it only does 4k up scaling from 1080p. But no big deal for me. Would have been nice, but not a deal breaker.

Does atmos on this receiver play through a 7.1 or 5.1 speaker setup?

both.
7.1.2
or 5.1.2

Just got this receiver 3 months ago.
Really like that I can use two different sources for the two zones,
it has a weird configuration for zone 2/ speaker b that you can look up
But Zone 2 set up doesnt do digital sources, only built in apps or analog signals
You can get around that by configuring a speaker B set up, which i havent bothered to do because its not a big deal for me

It's a 7.2.2 receiver. 7 channel speakers, 2 subs and 2 height speakers aka dolby atmos. Also, check reviews. This receiver is pretty legit according to other reviews. You can Google wirecutter and this pioneer for an article. I'm going to try price matching at best buy tmr morning.

Only 1080p sources are upscaled.

I needed a receiver to make sure my system can do all of this HDMI HDCP 2.2 handshake sh*t. Bought one of these.

I thought I could get away with using an old receiver, throwing all of my inputs through TV first and then using ARC to feed receiver. It worked...but for some reason when watching TV shows during the commercials the audio would cut out/in. Very strange. Anyhow every other device in the chain is brand new, so I'm hoping by throwing $340 at the receiver it will cure this problem.

Getting this so my dad can replace that old Pioneer VSX-D411 that he's been using for the past 15 years.

Huh, well conflicting reports. But oh well, it's really only the Wii that I have that's not hdmi. So if I have to connect that directly to the TV Oh well. Won't get wii on the projector.
My 9 year old can suck it. Thanks.

Other user is mistaken; only 4K upscaling happens. It's clearly listed in the product sheet [pioneerelectronics.com].
