Amazon has the Philips Fidelio X2 headphones on sale for $248.90 - $50 coupon for the cheapest price ever according to CCC and that was about a year ago. These have excellent reviews on both amazon and head-fi. I finally picked up my first pair of good open headphones and am excited to get these later today.

Also possible free same day shipping though YMMV (it was for me)

Edit: don't forget to use Discover for an additional 5% CB this quarter!!

For people trying to decide on this over the HD650/HD600: I own a pair of headphones that's very similar to the HD650/600 (the HE400s) and it really boils down to what you prefer for a sound signature. The HD650 and HE400s would be considered to have a neutral/warm sound signature (HE650 definitely more neutral). This makes them better for genres like classical music, where you simply want the natural characteristics of the recording to come out, and you need to focus on the more analytical details of the music. The downside of this is that some people complain about certain types of music coming across as "cold" or too laid-back. Typically this sound signature doesn't have as much bass, because bass has a tendency to distort other frequencies and result in a less "accurate" sound signature. This changes when you start getting into much more expensive headphones ($600+), as they are better at having more tight controlled bass that still has impact.

The Fidelio X2, by contrast, is more of a warm/v-shaped sound signature, which is to say they don't have a flat frequency response, although that's not to say they aren't "accurate". They just have more bass which really helps give these headphones a more "fun" sound. That essentially just means that explosions and other loud noises will have more of an impact, and feel more lifelike. The downside to this, with regards to gaming, is that sometimes too much bass can interfere with being able to articulate where noises are coming from. Apparently these don't have this problem too much, as the soundstage (the apparent width and depth of the sound "stage") is pretty expansive, meaning there is a good deal of separation between different sounds, making it easier to differentiate where each noise is located.

TLDR: if you listen to mainly classical music/jazz/soft rock, there are better headphones in this price-range. If you mainly listen to rap/edm/rock music and want "fun" sounding headphones that are good for gaming, then you'll probably want these because there's not much comparable at this price-point.

I love these headphones. They are large and more suited for listening at home because of the open back design, but they have a fun sound signature and are super comfortable. A sub $200 price for a new pair is a good deal.

very excited i was able to get them for this price. was also considering the HD600 for $260 (+$100 for an amp) but i heard the sound stage and bass in the X2 would be more suitable to gaming and the types of music i listen too. not needing an amp to take advantage of them is just icing on the cake.

from what i read not overall, but in terms of value a lot of users have sided with these as they are $115 less and dont require any additions like an AMP or DAC which can run an extra $100 and up

Damn, I wish I got these at $200. I thought $250 was a good deal when I got it back a year ago. Definitely a SD.

They've been close to this price a few times recently, but I think this is a first below $200 new since the lightning deal last year.

I'm really interested to hear these, but must resist as I do not need any more headphones.

I've heard great things about these. Unfortunately just don't need them, and don't need to buy myself any more gifts this season...

Great price!

If you're looking for an upgrade, this wouldn't really be it.

Having owned both of these, I would say the main difference is the X2 is more fun, and HD650 is more analytical. For movies and gaming, the X2 is better. For music, HD650 is better. Overall though, they're both quite similar to be honest. My amp/dac is the O2+ODAC. I hear the Schiit stack may be better suited for HD650.

Regardless, this is great price for these headphones.

Great price, I had to return mine because the sibilance was too harsh for me. Other than that, they are super comfortable and fun to listen to.
