PSA: Sallie Mae Rewards Mastercard holders: Rewards to change on 3/1/17, no more 5% cashback on gas/groceries

Just a heads-up, I got a letter stating my Sallie Mae Rewards Mastercard from Barclaycard will be converted to the Commerce Mastercard by Sallie Mae on 3/1/17. Commerce offers 2% cashback on groceries and utilities, and 1% cashback on all other purchases. The 5% cb on gas and groceries seems to be going away. If this applies to you, now is a good time to look at other gas/grocery cashback cards.

This stinks. It gave 5% on Amazon too.

Received this notification via snail mail today. I'll be canceling my card on 3-1-17 as the new one pales in comparison to other cards.

Oh well. It was good while it lasted.

I'm buying gift cards at Aldi to lock in my cashback ahead of the conversion date. After that it is back to Amex BCE.

Crying tonight. This was my best credit card. Loved it so dearly.
I'm guessing calling to complain will do nothing?

Yeah, won't do you an ounce of good.

Move on to the next (Discover IT + Chase Freedom are great places to look).

Wow there goes my rock solid 365 day 5% CB at amazon. Lame. I used the groceries to the max every month and the gas everytime I filled up unless another card gave quarterly bonus. What a worthless card it will become. 2% on utilities may be ok.

so weird that this was posted just now. I was just telling a friend an hour ago that this card was discontinued and that she can't get it anymore and that my cashback would likely be going away as well...

Well this just sucks. This is definitely my most used card. Guess I'll have to see if it's worth it to pay the AF for the Amex to get 6% now.

Well, can't really say it's a surprise, since they haven't been taking new applications for a while. This was my 2nd fav (the Priceline being on the top, barely). Earlier this year it was my Citi Forward, now this. What's in my wallet keeps going down while what's in my sock drawer keeps going up. If they do it like the Forward, they won't even try to keep you on board. The assumption is that you'll just bail. Citi didn't even try to pretend that it was an "upgrade" or "improvement". Gave them points for honesty, at least.

$3,167 in annual grocery spending is the break-even point between BC Everyday and BC Preferred ($95 annual fee), excluding sign-on bonuses.

There's a reddit post that breaks this down in detail, but it goes on the old $75 AF for BCP: https://www.reddit.com/r/personal...yday_blue/
