OPPO UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player

Now available in case you missed it

http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-203/

The UDP-205 is scheduled to be released in early 2017

No Darbee unit expected during 2017 if ever.

Why is this a SD? These units go for about $875 now on eBay. Traditionally OPPO players are the gold standard and hold their value, not the disposable players at the big box stores. They offer incredible value if you look at their capabilities

This player will eventually support DolbyVision

If you can't understand why someone would buy a player for $549, please read reviews for the previous models, the OPPO 103, OPPO 103D, the $1,299 OPPO 105, the $1,399 OPPO 105D or go look at their current used prices

4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, AVCHD, SACD, CD, Kodak Picture CD, CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, DVD±R DL, BD-R/RE....

Is this going to be the normal retail price? The 103 was $500 retail, right?

Cool. That's great that they have more. I was on their email list so I was able to order before the general sale. I was told that their stocked dried up. Folks are trying R sell them on eBay now for 800-900

The real value in Oppo players is the ability to play movie files from an external drive or NAS with top notch video decoding quality. These guys are the best of the best. UHD playback is a bonus!

Not trying to resell so waiting to hear some reviews and what folks on avs forums think before getting one. Also, hate buying anything at retail but may have to bite bullet on this once more information is available.

Yes, normal retail.

Never seen a sale at OppoDigital, occasionally they have refurbs or sale new discontinued models as refurbs

Even used prices don't get you much of a discount.

To get the best value, buy right away and use for 5 + years

30 Day Return policy, But... they will be updating the firmware so you may not get the polished version for after 30 days.

Wonder what the differences are beside the lack of streaming and inclusion of 4k HDR related features??

Any audio improvements in the analog section over the 103???

If one is strictly watching only Discs (Blu ray/UHD) and no rip offs/downloads/torrents/user files etc stored in NAS, etc - is this player worth the price?. Just trying to understand the value in those cases compared to the other 4k players.

If you care about picture quality, all the older models have been a great value. If you just buy a TV pull it out of the box, hook up a soundbar and call it good, probably not.

Traditionally, these have done a great job of upscaling so you could run all video through the OPPO (cable, satellite, streaming....) and see a nice picture improvement for everyday TV. Add the reference quality player, flexibility of tones of disk formats, analog audio outputs, fantastic customer service...

I have to say that I am a little disappointed that this only offers one HDMI input. There are work arounds but still

three thumbs down. I understand thumbs down from people that have never owned an Oppo, but where are the OPPO fans?

Xbox one s perhaps?

Xbox one s vs. the Oppo udp-203 - would be great to compare the good / bad.

I am glad Oppo is around but I would guess that the TD are more from this ("Hey you can get these at full retail rather than being price gouged on eBay!") being a PSA and not a true SD.

Just saying Smilie (fyi I did not TD it, just guessing why others did)

Edit: For those curious whether Oppo justifies it's price tag is certainly debatable. The biggest appeal in the past have been excellent build quality in an industry that cuts quality corners at every opportunity to save a buck along with industry leading support. Essentially, Oppo builds it right the first time and then supports its with constant firmware updates; adding features that way rather than releasing a new model. Some people appreciate this philosophical approach in modern manufacturing and like to support the company behind it Smilie Whether it will actually produce a better picture than your Xbox one S is another question Smilie

Got 1 for my only $9.99 Batman v Superman 4K Blu-ray. Now I need good sale on those LG oled tv's. Talk about $9.99 upgrade to couple grand. Need 4K receiver but will pass-thru audio from Oppo & video in to tv from player.

Gave you a thumbs up to counteract the negativity. Smilie

I'm probably going to remain with my Xbox One S, but this is tempting - especially because I have to run the Xbox through the Samsung TV to get it to work properly, and the audio relies on an optical cable. Seems like I'd be able to run the audio out of this directly to the AVR and run the video to the TV.
