With the Ring Video Doorbell Pro, you get instant alerts when visitors press the button on your doorbell or trigger motion sensors. Watch over your home in crystal-clear 1080p HD video while protecting your home-day or night-with it's infrared night vision. Since this connects to your home wireless network, WiFi is required.. -slickdewmaster

I own this and I wish someone pointed this out to me before I bought it!

One: There have been several updates. The latest one rendered my Ring Pro useless.

Two: Yes, the unit is wireless capable at 2.4 and 5ghz...but 5 ghz RARELY goes though all of the walls and the front door to the doorbell....so, this feature is pretty much useless. 5 ghz is pretty much known to be best used IN THE SAME room...and since most people do not store their routers on the front porch....it is worthless. This makes for choppy video/audio....and or delays after someone rings the bell. GREAT CONCEPT: POOR EXECUTION. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Major diff between pro and regular ring doorbell:
Pro: Has 1080p resolution, Video on Demand (ie: able to activate video anytime with/without any motion activation), Require Wiring to existing doorbell
.
Non Pro: ONLY activate if there are motion outside on battery. No wiring requirement (battery rechargable). It can use existing doorbell wiring OR rechargable battery.

Non Pro version can also do Live View if its hardwired.

If you don't have existing doorbell system, you can still hardwired it with a plug-in transformer.

IMHO, the Pro version is absolute crap. I returned it after 2 replacement units and numerous tech calls.

Just to name a few issues, all units had trouble going out of IR night mode during the day, all units wouldn't alert me until a delivery driver was walking away and even then the video was very scrambled or half the screen was green. A few folks in my neighborhood had similar issues and also returned theirs.

Good product idea, but terrible execution.

Sorry in advance if it's already been discussed but what's the difference between the $139 version and the pro version?

Basically it's updated and the size of the video doorbell itself is slimmer. Those are major differences that I see.

The only advantage of the older cheaper version is, that it has a battery, so no hardwire needed if you don't have it. But the PRO version has more to give other than that. Specifically better video, slimmer size, better zone management.

Hmmm, then I guess the regular Ring + chime for $169 at Costco is not such a great deal, except for the fact that it can go back any time.

I have a non pro version, I don't see the "live feature". How do I activate it?
Update: Thanks for update, rep+4. Found My answer, the regular (NON Pro) version will only hve live view IF it connects via wiring.

Really? I just got the pro version to replace the non pro one. Waiting for them to send me the power kit for the doorbell as I don't have normal doorbell wiring. I am connecting it to a 16.5V plug-in transformer.
