I read these are just Epiphone's assembled by Gibson in the US. Not sure if that's the case, but to me they just look like prettier Epiphone's. I can't see why anyone would pay $500.. or even $250-ish for this when you can get an Epiphone for $100 give or take. The give away to me is when Gibson refers to the body as "solid wood", but no mention of the type of wood. Seems to me this is an Epiphone is sheep's clothing Wink.

Disagree, 250 for a guitar made in the USA, sounds like a deal

The "made in the USA" doesn't make it a good deal itself. But by all means, buy it if you think it's a good deal.

I think you are missing thew point. There are cheaper guitar NOT made in the USA which are..for sure..nicer. But that's neither here nor there.

It's $250 for a guitar assembled in the US, parts made in China (bad) and Korea (not too bad).

They have the horrible Chinese made bridge that will break/slip, generic Chinese tuners, and who-knows-where-they're-made-at-now Epiphone probuckers (even though legally they can call it a Gibson), etc.

It's not 100% manufactured in the US, it's just assembled here. You can get a much better deal buying a Korean Epiphone on sale for the same price ($250) from Guitar Center this time of year. They had an SG-400 Custom on sale for the past two weeks for $175, and the build on that is comparable to a $600 guitar.

I believe the M2 is just a renaming of their Melody Maker line, the ones that are sold alongside First Act guitars at Best Buy for $60 to $80. I imagine there will be a severe price drop within 6 months when people start realizing that this is a gimmick.

Gibson is testing the waters by making Amazon the exclusive retailer for this guitar. It's not featured on any other website, so if it's a flop, they'll just discontinue the line.

Cant say if these are actually a great guitar or not -BUT- anything with "Gibson" and "Made in USA" on it will be worth more than $256 in a few years.
Personally, I have the 2014 Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker and it is a GREAT guitar. I own 4 Gibsons from LP to Midtown, etc and can say they are VERY well made guitars, sound great and much better than the many Korean, Chinese, etc guitars I have owned over the years (yes, I own a few epiphones too).
Like I said, I dont have the M2 but I would be very very surprised if Gibson would put their name on anything of poor quality. I mean they do know what they are doing. It may not be as good as a Les Paul of course but pretty sure they are damn good for $256 ! Really would be completely shocked if these were anything close to First Act - You know, if you really know guitars, have owned a few really good ones, and knew enough to make a valid comparison. .

I'm wondering if the guitar has "made in the USA" anywhere on it?????

I remember Walmart selling Levi's that said "Made in the USA" and they were actually made in
China...Walmart had to stop selling them.

Yes, stamped on the back of the headstock.

There are some good pics here of one: http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/s...p?t=380896

I've read some decent reviews on these. The green is rich. I like that the kid who has always dreamed of owning a Gibson may now be able to do so. I know it's just a name... to each their own.
