For those with unlimited data and verizon and an unused upgrade

YMMV BUT My kids have have had unlimited data for years. They all had upgrade phones sitting on their accounts for years that couldn't be used or transferred without a plan change. Not sure what possessed me but I called the other day and asked if they could transfer the upgrade to me(old plan but not unlimited). Sure they said- they wanted me to sign up some edge crappy thing but said if I paid $360 the phone was mine with no plan change to my account- they said I could activate the phone under one of the unlimited accounts when it came. To make matters stranger they said my account would be up for an upgrade in March since I was paying in full the $360- so no monthly fee, no account change just $360 for an Iphone 7 with 128GB. She offered to "free" the other locked upgrades too. MY kids will be thrilled to have something new-it has been years. All the paperwork has been reviewed- looks as promised.

You need to go read the stickied post over at https://www.reddit.com/r/VerizonUDP/

The wiki is https://www.reddit.com/r/VerizonUDP/wiki/index

After reading that, you should then ask your question over there, to make sure your kids won't lose their UDP if doing the above. Verizon service reps have in the past told customers that they won't lose their UDP, but in fact they end up losing it.

I'm pretty sure if you do what you're planning on doing, they will lose their UDP the second you put their UDP SIM into the subsidized smartphone.

did you check if they will add $20 extra for unlimited data plan ? I upgraded two lines and managed to skip the $20 extra fee. I couldn't use the phones though. Sold the Iphones and bought pixel from swappa.

I guessing your unlimited data plans are $49 a month and not $29.

It's amazing what people did giving up unlimited data for the new phone for $200 instead of paying retail.
Now everyone pays retail. Funny how that is.

I still have my unlimited data, did the BBM when it came time to renew, and do not pay the extra $20 until 10-10-17.

I am at $75 and some change for 450 mins, unlimited mins and 4G LTE data, no throttle.

It worth its weight in GOLD now. No Exaggeration.

Interesting that VZW allowed him to transfer upgrades outside the accounts. I know it's possible between lines on the same account.

I am in the same boat as my $30 data will end around Oct./Nov. 2017 as well. It will raise to $50 and there's not to be done about it. I am not sure what I'm going to do at that point, switch family to a tiered data plan, switch to another carrier like T-Mobile, or pay the extra $20 per line for unlimited data.

Pay the extra, duh! its well worth it.
I did the best buy upgrade method which essentially tricked VZW into putting me into a contract BEFORE the day of the added $30 fee. Im sure it will work the same this time around? Before the contract end date, purchase a contract phone thru BB.COM and remove the sim upon receiving it and insert old SIM.

OP- 3 unlimited plans (2 still 29.99 and 1 49.99) no rhyme or reason the kiddo who uses the most still 29.99 (100gb a mo)

All paper work still confirms unlimited data.

it still can be still done. My contract is renewed to 09/17/2018 on both lines without $20 extra. nod I have another line that'll end in 2017.

I'm the only one in my family plan that uses significant data, so paying $50 for the other lines each for data isn't worth it. Looks like I will see what JulesJam suggests in 10 months or so, but BBM may still be working. Just need to sell the phone and buy another phone off contract elsewhere.

Did you do the Best Buy Method? Ship to home, remove sim w/o turning on or activating, and selling it outright? Basically renewing your contract, but not using the subsidized phone...
