They do degrade, that's not an argument, but don't try to scare off people by throwing out an incorrect statement that these batteries need to be replaced in 2-3 years unless you have proven tests results from Arlo. You basically just put B.S. out there with no actual facts.

V easy to setup and place, can be used wired with or without battery.

A few cons:
If you intend to use this to speak to the FedEx guy then expect to be disappointed:

It might take 10 seconds for the actual alert to arrive from when detected, another 10 seconds to launch live view and then another 5 to enable the microphone.

The speaker is loud enough for indoors use, but can vary wildly for outdoors

I ordered 2 of them from Amazon last week. I already had to send one back to Amazon because it wasn't working. The camera that does work is great.

Thanks OP.

My non-pro Arlo system (4 cams) is only about 6 months old. Would love to upgrade to Pro but $600 is almost double what I paid for my perfectly adequate setup, can't bring myself to do it. So I'll hold out at least for a equivalent deal from a vendor that doesn't charge sales tax. Or maybe a similarly-priced deal from Costco that includes an extra camera, or an eBay deal with 10% eBay bucks, etc. Bound to happen eventually.

don't forget to factor in replacing 4 batteries at $50 per battery. all lithium ion batteries will eventually need to be replaced after 2-3 years of usage. This is especially true for batteries that are exposed to the harsh outdoor temperatures swings.

http://electronics.howstuffworks....ttery2.htm

"Lithium-ion batteries age. They only last two to three years, even if they are sitting on a shelf unused. So do not "avoid using" the battery with the thought that the battery pack will last five years. It won't. Also, if you are buying a new battery pack, you want to make sure it really is new. If it has been sitting on a shelf in the store for a year, it won't last very long. Manufacturing dates are important.

Avoid heat, which degrades the batteries."

That statement means the shelf life of the battery holding the charge not the lifetime age of the battery. There is no way to predict the lifetime age of batteries as they are used very different by each user, but I have Li-ion batteries from electronics over 10+ years and they still charge and work fine.

On the contrary...lithium ion batteries degrade over time in general whether it is used or not. this is the reason why smartphone batteries don't last as long after couple years. some even die prematurely just look up bloated battery . This degradation is accelerated when used in an outdoor environment (as depicted in the marketing for this cam) due to the extreme temperature variations. point being those battery packs will eventually need to be replaced probably sooner than later. 10 years maybe in a controlled environment like in a home and even then it will have significantly reduced capacity. All bets are off when you stick them outside.

So the real question now is whether or not to buy directly from the bestbuy.com site or the best buy portal on ebay and get the ebay bucks? Does that purchase add to my rewards/Elite status?

LOL!! Is this some form of scare tactic? Using "How stuff works" to "remind" us that these batteries need to be replaced every 2-3 years at $50 each when that's not even the point of what the article you posted was trying to make? What a joke you are. Get the f out of here

Yes. You will probably want to treat the glass with something to prevent steam from building up on it and blocking the shot.
