Google Home Integration W/ Roku

1,015 142 December 25, 2016 at 08:36 AM
Just thinking out loud/in type, but do you guys foresee Google Home ever integrating with Roku? Being competitors I see it being a while but pondering buying a Chromecast to have more options at the house. I currently have an Insignia Roku TV and the little lady bought a Google Home.

I'm wondering the same thing because I have the Roku 4k and looking into purchasing the Google Home for my home automation. Roku needs to think of something soon before I just sell it and change over to Chromecast.

I have the Roku, just got the Google Home, zero integration. I also got the chromecast for Christmas. The chromecast works great with Google Home, but sucks completely compared to Roku. Ex: If your phone dies, you have no remote. No apps on the TV itself, all on tablet or phone. Yes great, you can tell Google Home to play a specific movie on Netflix, but you can't ask it to pull up menu on your TV, because there isn't one. Needless to say, returning the Chromecast, and plugging the Roku back in.

Both awesome feedback. I, for the longest time, rocked a chromecast but when I needed a new TV and the 55" Insignia Roku TV was $400 OTD, I bit and have enjoyed Roku again for the same reasons. Ease of use, everything built into the tv, the menus, etc. But I do enjoy the Google Home, it's great for home automation, I just hope Google and Roku can figure it out. I mean YouTube can be pushed from my phone to the Roku TV, so I guess there is hope. 😀

Right now Google home doesn't really have any integration with any other products that are non google. Google has said that is coming in the future. Hopefully they open up the API to anyone. That said Roku doesn't have the same casting technology as chromecast. While they might appear to do similar things how they do them is totally different.

A chromecast is $30, if you want those features today your best bet is to buy one. I would not bet on the Roku getting that anytime soon if ever.
