I haven't seen this posted, but I was on the fence about buying the $1.99/month. By paying annually instead of monthly, you can now receive a discounted rate. Never hurts to save a couple of bucks if you already have a pay plan in the first place.

100GB for $19.99/year (16% savings) - Comes out to ~$1.67/month
1 TB for $99.99/year (17% savings) - Comes out to ~$8.34/month

Yes, you could just use OneDrive/Amazon Cloud (unlimited photos with Prime) or other cloud services to upload photos. For me, Google Photos integration with Google Drive and my Android Devices is seamless.

As per Geotu (Thank you for providing this information below)

If you currently have a paid plan, and the yearly subscription isn't showing up

For those also on a monthly plan, I just canceled my plan with the expectation that I'll be able to sign up for the yearly plan at the end of my billing cycle. Here's the info I was told just now in a chat with Google Support:

Since you have an existing subscription, you won't be able to see it yet unless the plan expires. For existing plan users, you'd have to cancel the plan and wait for it to expire then you'll be able to see the annual storage subscription on that page.

To cancel your storage plan:
Go to Google.com/settings/storage
Under your current plan, click Cancel Plan.
Confirm the changes, and click Cancel Plan to finish.

After you cancel your storage plan, it will stay active just until the end of your current billing cycle, and will no longer renew after that. You should also get a confirmation email for the cancellation.

When your plan expires, none of your files gets deleted. They'll stay on your account unless you delete them yourself.

Do you have to cancel first to renew at the 1-year rate?

damn, not showing up for me, unless im missing something.

my 100gb plan is filling up pretty quickly. i hope they adjust their prices down considerably, or add a plan between 100gb and 1000gb, before i fill it up.

I don't see an option to pay yearly. I'm on the 80GB legacy plan and pay yearly. If I could get the 100GB yearly, that would basically give me 25% more for the same price.

Someone chime in if they see a way to go annually. I'm wondering if that means cancelling an existing account (something I do NOT want to do)?

yeah canceling does nothing. I learned the hard way (now I have to quickly renew in a few days or have a mess to clean up)

I see it under my @Gmail.com but not my grandfathered Google Apps, my main account... they really want us to upgrade GSuite...

Canceling should work but you have to wait until the end of your billing cycle to renew on the yearly plan. Scroll up to read my comment.
