Best Buy has just listed an Oculus Rift Deal which gives you a $150 Best Buy Gift Card

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/oculu...Id=4932000

FYI, I purchased mine almost 2 weeks ago when they did the $100 GC promo and was able to get a $50 GC mailed to me to match this new deal.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

you should have started easy with vr porn so that you don't get motionsick when playing games.

The expensive VR headsets offer positional tracking the requires the use of a powerful computer. That means you can look and walk around with almost seamless differences to real life head movements. On the cheap $10 "VR headsets", they typically are just mounts for your phone so the visuals aren't as good and movement tracking is much much worse. If you've ever used those star gazing apps on your smartphone and move it around, there's noticeable delay and jitter since the phone relies on not-so accurate accelerators and gyroscopes that don't refresh fast enough to track your movement accurately. This not only makes it less convincing to the user, but can also present problems like headache, nausea, and just all around unpleasantness.

On the expensive headsets like Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, they use more advanced tracking technology that offers what the industry calls "Sub-millimeter tracking" so even tiny movements down to the millimeter is tracked.

So why is that important? Immersion. Once you're strapped in, if the tracking and visuals are good enough, it can play tricks on your brain to make you believe you're there. I'm not talking 3D TV, but actual violation of personal space and survival instincts that aren't normally tapped into on other 2D offerings. You're less likely to experience this on the cheap $10 mounts and the content is vastly inferior. I used a couple iterations of Google Cardboard before trying a fancy headset and it didn't prepare me at all for how real video games can feel.

The expensive headsets also can support hand tracking so it adds another level of immersion. If you can find somewhere to demo it, I highly recommend trying it out.

It's dumb anyways. I had this and spent over $100 on games. All the games are pretty much glorified tech demos, project cars gave me motion sickness and you can't see the road in front of you. Sold on eBay and took the loss. Don't bother, wait for second gen or until there are games.

I bought this 2 weeks ago too, but I wasn't able to get them on the phone to send me the $50 difference. How did you get them to send the $50?

Ahhh, tempted, but I do actually have space to do a pretty large playspace. It'd be a shame to go to waste...or to be running 15-foot USB connectors to Oculus sensors. So probably gonna hold out for another $50 or $100 on top of the post-Christmas MS Store Vive sale.
