Audeze LCD-XC Closed Limited Edition Headphones (Bocote) $1299 + free shipping

Posted 01-02-2017 by iconian at 10:34 AM
deal [adorama.com]

this is a limited edition of 50 units. Not sure how many left... My friend got an open box last spring and not only he said that it sounds as good as LCD-3, but the wood is gorgeous and it's easier to drive than LCD-3.

People buy Lexus, I have a Camry. People have $10 headphones, I have $400 headphones. You pay more for things you like, and if you can't then you get what is affordable. Surprise these comments still pop up on Slickdeals these days. Ignorance.

One thing for sure, the SoCal mark up on these headphones at MSRP was just insane. I'm getting some $200 Yamaha planar headphones next week and will absolute do a detail comparison with my dust collecting LCD-XC. I think the only way Audeze could survive in the next new wave of competition is if they got some Hollywood big name endorsement or if Bill Gates REALLY uses it.

I have the XC. These are beautiful headphones. They are very heavy, so I only wear them in bed before I go to sleep. Make sure you check that your headphone's production date is after 01/2016. There is a significant sound difference between the 2015 driver and 2016 updated drivers.

Indeed. I offset my X00 purchase by not splurging on anything else. I settled for a netbook while I got my brother a mid-tier Surface Pro for college. It's called compromises.
But of course it's the same people who spew this 1% nonsense but still insist on carrying the latest full-price iPhone and Macbook :^).

you don't know if it's a "LOT" ? For headphones? OMG just how rich ru? I'm guessing as a kid you never wanted for anything, all the toys you asked for, you got, PLUS. You will never understand how it feels to want.
All I said was I didn't know there were so many Bill Gate's. And YOU took it as a personal insult to your monetary wealth. Mr. Potter!

As a first generation immigrant, my parents moved to Dallas and have to walk 2 miles to just grocery shop. Eating chicken for dinner was a big deal. They happened to work extremely hard, and put me through college and medical school. We are doing well now, and $1300 is significant looking at where we came from but insignificant in the current state of the family. That being said, I really had to think hard to splurge on something like this. I don't think people should be wasteful, but occasional luxury is ok as long as you manage the more important things in life. These comments are off topic, and I think the admins do a better job moderating threads. This is a deal site, and this is a great deal for what MSRP is. I know plenty on head-fi.org who paid regular price $1800 for these.

I think the true cost (staff, research, etc) is probably around $1000. They probably only sell like 500 of these world wide. I bought some Westone ES60 custom IEMs last year. They are $1300 MSRP. I got them at close to cost which is around $750 because we run a large hearing aid account with Westone. The material cost is probably $50-$100 if any.

My father came from a literal village with no electricity in a third world county. Where they would bring in a truck battery to listen to the radio.

When I came to this country at 4 years old, we lived in a one bedroom apartment in the bronx.

Oh I wanted things.

He worked harder and taught his children that anything is possible as long as you're willing to work for it.

No sense in moaning and assuming that people are born into money. Most people aren't. They get there through hard work. It takes time, but people like you tend to point fingers and cry about being less fortunate. Usually that's not the case. It's just the lack of the will power needed to succeed.

People really blow these threads out of proportion. This isn't even like a smartphone or computer where it loses half its value in a year, and yet we have plenty of people buying the latest ones of those every year. High end headphone prices drop really slowly compared to most tech products, which makes spending a grand on headphone seem reasonable enough for anybody that really wants one.

I'm more surprised that people would spend $500 on a phone than people spending $1000 on headphones.

Is this something I have to get and have to use an external amp with? I find those very annoying. I mainly listen to my music using my iPhone 7.

I listened to one of my friends super expensive audiophile headphones before without an amp and IMHO they sounded much worse than my Beats Studio headphones. Of course my friend was gloating that his super expensive head phones were infinitely better and mine work junk. I guess I just don't have audiophile ears. My Beats Studio head phones sound real good to me. I usually don't even admit that I have Beats Studio headphones usually because people are going to start snickering and saying I wasted my money.

The Impedance on these is low. Your phone could drive them, but headphones tend to work better amped. You just don't need expensive headphones to play mp3s.

As much as I like nice headphones, these are probably more than I would spend. If you're not into headphones, these are a waste. Plus, they aren't really for portable use.

I have AT m50s, beyer dt 990s, sennheiser 650s and QC35s (blasphemy, I know) for travel. Audioengine D1 used as a DAC and a schiit magni uber for my amp.

Seems good enough for me and to some degree I think your ears just get used to whatever you have. If you're happy with your beats, that's fine. Who cares what others think. The only real way to compare headphones is to listen to them side by side with a high quality source.

It's nice, but it is a bit of a hassle. As terrible as it sounds, I usually tell friends to get beats or Sony whatever and other well known brands. It gives them brand recognition which is usually what people want. Obscure headphones from companies no one has heard of aren't for everyone. The average person doesn't care.
