Increased security is B.S.?

Why do you need a bag (big enough to search) at the movies?

We prefer Regal even though we have a cheaper theater in town. The REgal, about 20 min away, was converted a couple years ago to recliner seating. With a 3 yo it's easier to keep her contained in that kind of seating vs the traditional theater seating we have in the local place. Plus, in speaking with a few workers when buying tickets, so long as a child does not take up an extra seat, I don't have to pay for them. The recliner seats there are really loveseats with a removable armrest in the middle - so such a seat can fit 2 adults and a child comfortably. Plus they do have the rewards program FWIW.

They do not have a bag search policy but it's a rather smallish city anyway. But I do remember the days of wearing a huge winter jacket in the middle of summer to stash 2L bottle of soda laugh out loud

I don't think that checking purses or bags increases security at all. If you are referring to the ability to bring a weapon in a bag most weapons that could fit in a bag that someone would even try to bring in to a theater would also fit in there clothing. Do you really want to set a precedent that it's ok to be searched at common places you go, for virtually no increase in security. Can you imagine waiting outside the entrance of malls to be checked? How about restaurants?

Never seen a bag check at our Regal. Also why would you ever need to bring a bag in the theater unless you were sneaking in food or something? I'm fine with bag checks if it will increase my security!

You're right.. we should probably stop checking bags at sporting events, and remove the metal detectors at airports, because how often do they turn up a positive return? (Note the heavy sarcasm.)

The idea is to deter people who would otherwise consider bringing regardless of, "rules," and if you're inconvenienced by a simple bag check, you should probably just stay home, subscribe to Netflix, and be patient.

Do you think the bags at sporting events is to keep food and drinks that they want to sell you out of the park? Wouldn't that be effective at theaters as well?

i don't think anybody is going to be deterred by a bag check if they mean to bring in a weapon. I don't see anybody being stopped by that. So in this hypothetical situation the mind set of the "bad guy" well I can't stick it in the bag I was going to bring in so I better just forgot everything I had planned on doing is ludicrous, I don't see this protecting anybody, ever, unless your talking about protecting theater profit margin on concessions. I already agreed airport security is needed I was suggesting that the current ppl who contract to do the security wouldn't have jobs if they had a competitor that actually had any kind of customer service whatsoever.

also, i'm not saying stay home. I'm saying if you don't want this evasive trend to continue then don't support places that adopt it. There are many other chains that don't have this policy.
