QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2017 with Enhanced Payroll Download Version $199.99

This is the cheapest price for the combo pack and the cheapest price for Enhanced Payroll alone that I have seen for the 2016 or 2017 versions. For those that only need Enhanced Payroll, this is the least expensive way that I've found to obtain it and it's over $180 cheaper than 2017 Enhanced Payroll by itself. I've always purchased the mailed disk version, but since the download is $40 cheaper, I'm going to try it this year.

Note that Quickbooks Pro software is good for three calendar years, in this case 2017, 2018, and 2019. The Enhanced Payroll service is good for 12 months from the installation date. If you install it before your current service is exhausted, you will forfeit any remaining time that you had.

In my perennial fight against Intuit, this year I plan to switch my credit card numbers about one month prior to the auto renewal debit from my credit card. To find out your Enhanced Payroll expiration date, in your account go to Employees > Payroll and then choose something like Manage Your Account. If you pull up your Quickbooks account and go to support and then to subscriptions, you can pull up your account on line. This will reveal which credit cards are active on your account. Then call your credit card company (bank) and tell them you would like a new card with a new number (or expiration date or 3 letter code) for each active card shown on your Quickbooks account. (Maybe the magnetic stripe isn't working so well anymore) The alternative would be to call Quickbooks and have them reverse (or prevent it if they agree) the charge and give up another hour of your life to Intuit. shake head

Oh, so all of that was much ado about nothing! Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) I called them to cancel my auto Payroll subscription renewal and it only took 5 minutes. woot I'm pretty sure , however, that they won't let you cancel it during you initial call to activate the payroll subscription. Joe123456

BEWARE of Intuit. They will disable your ability to import bank data (even manual download) after three years to extort you to buy a new version.

Can these be activated for different client's? One client needs 2017, one need a year of Payroll.

Great deal Joe! Thanks.

Do you know if the start of the 12 months Enhanced Payroll subscription goes by the Install / Activation Date and not the Purchase Date?

The Install / Activation Date would seem to make sense, but I believe they ask you when and where you purchased the software when activating.

My Enhanced Payroll doesn't expire until April, so I want to be sure buying early doesn't hurt.

You can cancel the auto renewal. It is a pain in the arse though. I did this last Septemper when mine was set to auto renew. Call and tell them that you have bought an upgrade to quickbooks and that you don't need the renewal. They will act dumb and not understand you but just insist that you don't need the renewal. Then when it expires install your new license. It's not the easiest, but it works. Too bad I don't need this until October, because this is a good deal. And set a reminder in your calender so that you call before the auto renewal, because it's outrageous.

Edit: Note that you must activate this payroll subscription within 60 days of purchase or by May 31, 2018, whichever comes first.

It goes by the activation date. I would tell them that you bought it the week before, though with the download version they may know when you bought it. I'm not going to download it from my Amazon account until I'm ready to install it.

I'm in the same boat as you as I don't expire until April either. I remember the 60 day installation requirement from last time, but I checked the Amazon page carefully before ordering and there was no mention of it that I could find. I don't think that they can legally bind you to the 60 days if there was no mention of it BEFORE ordering. I may have to get my credit card company involved if there are any problems with this.

I thought you could probably call them to cancel the automatic renewal, but that's why I mentioned another hour of your life wasted.

I'm pretty sure that you cannot. I think you get one activation code for both products together.

I would strongly suggest for someone considering this product to go for this instead of the online version. The online version has only been a nightmare for our company. The desktop allows so much more functionality and features.

Thanks for that info. I went ahead and bought this download. My renewal date is Feb-28. Do you recommend I call a few days before that to cancel auto-renewal? Also, should I install the QB 2017 with Pre-paid payroll before calling or after?

If you have the patience to deal with Intuit CS every year, bless you. And congrats on your savings. But I can't do it anymore. After 9 years of playing that game, I gave up last year. It was just too much of a headache dealing with their abysmal CS and glitchy software that would conveniently "lose" our Payroll subscription after every update, which required yet another 60-90 minute call to CS.

Ever since doing auto-renewal last year, this hasn't been a problem. I'm not paranoid by any means, but I'd by lying if I said I didn't think Intuit intentionally designs their system to make it a challenge to renew payroll via retail.

I also wish there was an alternative. But I have yet to find another software/payroll system that has the features we need even close to this price range.

+1 on that. My former company used the online version, while I have the desktop version for my own personal finances. Online version is generally slower and has less features. Also, you run into the occasional hiccup when they update it and you have to clear out your browser cache or things don't display properly. In doing so, you lose your customized view settings. What a pain. It's also quite expensive: we were paying $40 a month for the version just above the most basic one. No add-ons, etc. Too expensive.

IMO, the only benefit to using the online version is you can have multiple users without having to pay for multiple licenses like you would the desktop, but most small to medium-sized companies don't have more than 1 or 2 accountants using the system at any one time, anyway. You also have easy access, since it's hosted by QB. Log in from anywhere. However, you can easily set up your own home server to host the desktop version it if you really need that type of access. Not that hard.
