Looking for a tablet-esque PC with decent pen input for taking notes in onenote and the like, is this a deal (at this price point) compared to the recent SP3/4 deals even though this is the m5? Don't need a lot of processing power (web browsing, programming, word processing, netflix, etc.), but also don't want a few chrome tabs and a youtube video to take down the machine either

m5 is really powerful. its listed specs are a bad indication of its actual performance, i think that's why intel is renaming them with the "i" prefix next gen. so yeah this is more than enough for your needs.

FHD is not 2160x1440. The description is not accurate, OP.

Totally off topic, but does Lenovo not sell servers directly through their site?

I have the m7 version of this, and love it. Basically a budget Surface Pro. That said, I hate ordering from Lenovo. They collect sales tax, and require signature for delivery. I'm glad I got mine from newegg.

First time commenting on SD so please take it easy on me...

I've had my eye on this since November, but have been spooked by some of the reviews about lousy experiences with this specific design.

Has anyone heard similar or has Lenovo put out updates that have corrected the previous issues?

If you're referring to the keyboard issue, there is a fix: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Wind...1407#M6365

If that doesn't work for you, contact Lenovo and they'll send you a replacement keyboard.

What other issues are you referring to? I've had no problems with mine.

I seem to remember issues with not only the keyboard, but also the touchpad. The overall gist of what I remember reading was that the build seemed under-optimized and people expected better performance given the specs.

Honestly, I am just looking for someone (like you) who has had a great experience with the machine before pulling the trigger myself.

Well, the touchpad isn't a Microsoft Precision touchpad, so it's not going to provide the best experience. Fortunately it has a touchscreen, and I find myself using the active stylus a lot too, as it's pretty useful. If you're someone that's extremely nit-picky, I'd say spend the extra money and get a Surface Pro. But if you don't mind a couple of minor compromises in order to get the biggest bang for the buck, the Miix 700 can't be beat.

Not sure why felt the need to tell us that (I mean, I don't post on every slickdeal thread to announce I have no interest in it), but okay...
