Yeah, these will "work" with PS4 or Xbox One, but without a mini amp, they probably will sound like crap.

Decent mini amps will run you another $100-$120 or so.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RPD7KP8

"Cheapest" that will drive 150ohm is about $60

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z9BIODA

with USB DAC is $70

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0157DKAU4

Get the USB DAC (Q1) if you want to use it for listening to music too. You can use it to hook it up to your lightning port. If you just want a miniamp, the $60 A3 will work the best.

You WILL need an amp. So you can get a soundcard with an amp or get a cool amp/dac. I have these, they sounded like crap. I got a soundcard and they're pretty cool now.

From some of the reviews I've seen Astro's aren't real "amps" where the FiiO's are.

For example, the FiiO's pages on Amazon will tell you what the Ohm output is .. never seen any ohm outputs anywhere for Astro on Amazon or anywhere.

I'm not 100% sure ... so don't quote me on it.

http://forums.astrogaming.com/ind...nes.82320/

If I had to guess, the output is probably 50ohm for Astro's ... but that's just a guess.

Will 150ohm headsets work with Astro's? Yes ... they will.

I guess the only example I can think of would be to plug a 150volt bulb into a 50volt plug. Will the bulb light up? Yes ... but it will be "dim", if you know what I mean.

You'd probably need to dish out another $60 for a miniamp.

Astro -> MiniAmp -> Headset

Astro Mix "Amp" is actually like a soundcard in which gives players the option to use emulated surround sound by using Dolby Headphone. It's a DSP that converts a 5.1 signal into 2 channel audio emulating that surround sound. Some hate it some love it.... I love it.

But the Astro Mix "Amp" is far from being a powerful amplifier like the Fiio A3 or even the old Fiio E11 (which was my first little amp powering up to 250ohm headphones).

you can however double amp but there are some minor drawvacks to that which could be heard..or not.

So in the end, if really want this headset to come to life, an amp is required but also check your motherbards amp. Some if not most of the new or latest motherboards have an onboard amp that can power up to 600ohms...may not be as good as other audiophile type amps but probably on par with the Fiio A3 or some other similar price range amp.

Could try a Creative E5 [amazon.com] or G5 [amazon.com] both of which give virtual surround for PCs, or can be a DAC when hooked up via USB to PC or consoles. Will drive headphones up to 600Ohms iirc

I guess the question is, does MixAmp have it's own processor in it, or is it passthrough? So if your sound card on your PC has an output of 300ohm max, and your headphones are 150ohm, then you're fine. But if the MixAmp isn't passthrough, and only outputs a max of 50ohm, then you "would" need a MiniAmp.

I can't find anything online or anywhere if MixAmp is "passthrough" or if it has it's own "amp" built in.

Even so, these headphones would probably work with it anyways, even if it's not passthrough.

Unless you bought a gaming PC, I doubt the sound card on your MOBO would be enough to drive these, same with gaming consoles. But don't quote me on it. Smilie

Astro Mix Amp does not have a passthrough and has its own little mini amp. It was meant to work with their own headset which is a 50ohm headphone I believe? So a headphone like the HD598 would work really well.

but like I said, many new mobos or recent mobos like z97 and up have a built in amp that is rated to power up 600ohm headphones (there is also efficiency to take into consideration when powering headphones).
