I've had the Pro's for a few months now.
Firstly in any kind of urban areas where you have foot traffic etc in the field forget it, the constant recharging is going to make the use alerts useless and is going to make constant recharging a hassle. That is the prime features over wired to security recorder systems, and since you are paying a huge premium for that on Arlo pro, I would advise against it in that situation.

As far as how often to batteries need recharging, that depends widely on a lot of variables. One of the huge drawbacks of this system is that while it has some really smart tech you can't mask parts of the motion detection zone. While you can chain a single one to trigger a second one, it then can't record itself. The rules for triggering are very very limited.

Also if you use a smartphone the two way audio problem on Arlo's app has NOT been fixed at all.

I have two of mine now hardwired for power (battery out and UBB 5V in) which allows me to have recharged one's handy to swap. But if the power has to be wired you may as well get the way better performance of wired cameras. Thst the base doesn't allow a mixof wired and wireless is missed in my case.

2.4 ghz is a hassle also if you live in an urban area. My place is wood frame with a brick exterior. If I place my cameras outside of brick and though a single framed 2x4 to non metallic sheetrock I can get 20 to 25' range. Any more than that and they drop signal all the time.

1) how long do batteries last?
A: you could set it up so they last one day or six months.
EG: a) 10 to 120 seconds recording bursts is a 12x difference
b) setting between 10 to 100% mot det sensitivity is a 10x difference
c) setting between 0 to 4 audio detection is a 4x difference
d) record or not record audio
e) IR night vision on or off
f) video quality high medium or low

I can end up with 500 triggered high quality video events of 120 seconds duration once a day and blwo though my batteries in less than a day (and a 500 gb hdd in a day), or i can set variables it so there are two events per day and only use at 5% of battery in a week.

2) Can you power it externally?
A: yes, with a 1 amp or greater usb, power source standard decent gauge 15' to 20' usb mini cable and battery removed. With a non standard 9/5 volt over usb you can leave battery in.

3) can you mix new Arlo pro and old Arlo wireless? Yes

4) can you connect wired? Nope. never.

5) Is triggering improved over old systerm: Only slighly

6) Is app smart? Not really. If you set two cameras crossing your front stoop/entry one form east and one from west, you can set the west camera to trigger the east one, but the west then can't record (wtf?), and you cant set both to trigger each other, greatly increasing your chance of catching a face. YOu can set on or off by time, but you can't increase sensitivity by time.

The pro has virtually the same lag. It is a problem

I have 4 cameras hooked up. Great investment. You would be better off watching Best Buy when they have the 4 camera deal for $599. The rechargeable batteries are a great improvement over the original cameras.

Ive had nothing but problems with 1 camera from a four camera set. Returning them this week. Tech support is slow at helping. They lag. Buyer beware. Great idea, just not there yet.

If you got a good deal on it, at least exchange it for a new set and try it and see how you like it. I have heard lot of good things about this setup and I am trying to find a great deal on it. Missed the last from a month ago. The deal was for a single camera and unit for $99. That was an awesome deal.

Same here, I bought mine from Best Buy from the previous deal. 1 camera has problems staying connected. It seems to work fine when I plug in the USB charger though. (I just tested this now.)

They won't replace 1 camera through warranty? I don't want to disconnect my mounted cameras and return the whole set..

Can these cameras be plugged in to AC source? I don't want to deal with swapping batteries
