These are a pain to put on, you usually have to crawl under the car to do it. They also tend to fly off the tires and do not work very well, additional traction is minimal. They wear out quickly. You need a minimum of an inch of snow on the road to avoid damaging your tires and cannot exceed 35 mph.

None of the tire chain products are "good solutions" to the problem. If you live in an area that gets snow, the only real option is snow tires, studded if you get a lot of ice and they are legal where you drive.

Agree with Dh3256, but for differing reasons.

Chains, in general, are a temporary solution. So unless you live in an area with severe winter conditions, you probably shouldn't rely on chains as your go-to traction solution.

WIth that said, Chains are a good option for anyone who is 'passing through' areas of severe weather and NOT INTERESTED in snow tires.

Now, when it's cold out and you're facing the prospect of putting on chains, you want chains that 1) go on quickly and 2) are reliable. These non-metal chains are neither.

Regular metal chains have 2 fasteners (front & back) per tire. These plastic stripes are 5 fasteners per tire. So again, it's cold, you're fumbling around to put on chains as the cold wind and snow are blowing in your face... 2 fasteners per tire or 5? And trust me when I say metal will take the punishment of the road far better than plastic.

Good luck!
