https://www.recallrtr.com/dehumidifier

Name of Product: Dehumidifiers. See Description below.

Hazard: The dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke and catch fire, posing serious fire and burn hazards.

Remedy: Replace/Refund.

Consumers should immediately turn off and unplug the dehumidifiers and contact GD Midea for either a replacement unit or a partial refund. Consumers whose dehumidifiers were manufactured before October 1, 2008 will receive a partial refund, not a replacement. The manufacturing dates can be found on back of units.

Consumer Contact: To register and determine if you are eligible for this program, enter your unit's brand, model, and serial number into the tool at the bottom of this page. If your unit is one of the recalled units you will then be able to verify that you are human by checking the box in the Captcha tool then clicking the Register Now button.

Thanks for the heads-up, OP. Just replaced a Kenmore that stopped working. Unfortunately, it wasn't affected. Would have been nice to get a few $$ back. Good luck to all (whatever "luck" means to you - recalled successfully, or relieved that your unit isn't affected).

Pretty sure I had one of these, it stopped working and got crazy hot. Well guess what I took it to the dump.

Had a Frigidaire model that's included in the list. Stopped working after one season. No surprise.

Thanks OP and repped. I purchased one of the recalled Frigidare dehumidifiers from Staples on 7/14 since I had an old reconditioned Fedders dehumidifier in the basement which was many years old. Yet the Fedders is still going and going -- like an Energizer Bunny. So the Frigidare dehumidifier is still sitting unpacked in its original box in the basement.

Anyway for those who have one of the millions of affected dehumidifiers, be aware that with your claim form you have to send in 2 photos. One showing the model number and serial number. The other showing your dehumidifier with a cut electrical cord to prove that you are disposing it. The 2nd photo must also have your name and date written on the humidifier. So to save yourself a trip bring a camera and magic marker with you when you go to see if your humidifier qualifies (esp if you're like me with a dehumidifier tucked away in the basement with a lot of junk around it).

When you input the brand name, model number, and serial number they will tell you if your dehumidifier qualifies alone with the choice of a monetary amount or a replacement with a Comfee dehumidifier of the same capacity.

Per Walmart's website, they will give a full refund for recalled merchandise purchased from them. I paid over $200 for mine but the recall website was only offering $96.

Anyone know if Amazon does the same? I think I heard somewhere people got a full refund from Amazon on a similar recalled item.
