Hello everyone,

We wanted to let you know that we're making a small change to how users access the Classic View of the website. While the Classic View remains the same, you will need to use any of the following methods to experience that layout as of 2/13/17:
  • Have a cookie for the Classic View already stored on your computer or device
  • Log in or register to see the Classic View link in the website's footer (screenshot)
  • Save this Classic View bookmarklet to your browser and use it to access the Classic View without logging in
We are committed to keeping the Classic View for users that prefer it and it's not going away. We're simply changing the way unregistered users access that layout. Our goal is to reduce the number of different public-facing versions of the site so that we can follow best practices and avoid issues with how search engines crawl and index websites.

Thanks for your understanding and please let us know if you have any questions.

With the understanding that classic is not going away, this thread just became a forum to raise concern about new view.
If SD folks are smart, they will use this thread as an advice to improve the site ux.
Below is some actionable compilation from first few pages for sd tech and management.

General sentiments:
A community-driven site is changing, but not based on community feedback
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Has anyone ever said "wow, the new design looks and works so much better!" ?
If the redesign was really that great there wouldn't be a large contingent of SlickDeals users that refuse to use it.
the new view provide a better revenue stream for SD. really doesn't matter what the users say.
No one likes to read spam. It feels almost like I'm working (but not getting paid) for an ad company by posting a deal.
new SD view = windows 8 .. View is an eye sore
Thumb it down, I disapprove of this change. Classic view should be the default view.
So can't we just do away with the new one then?

UX/Tech Issues:
Clicking on the 'comment' icon should simply take people to the forum posts, just like how it's always been.
... really hard to get to the forum posts on the new UI.
please get rid of that front-page header that hijacks the thread via activity feed.
1 post takes up half of the screen, and Searching? Give me a break!!!
I know the products by name, so the pictures are distracting. And all the space makes it harder for me to quickly scan through the deals on a single page.
It's not easy on the eyes. It's not easy to navigate.
the way the site infinitely scrolls slows down my browsing experience on my phone, which is the main reason I use Basic HTML
The tile design with pictures feels like a catalog, like you're trying to sell something (vs. From a UX and user culture perspective, the simple list gives off more of a community vibe.)
Sometimes when I click on a deal and go back, it won't go back to that same spot where I scrolled.

Ideas:
you guys seriously need to take a step back and realize how convoluted the new site features have made the experience.
Why not setup a poll for registered users only and find out how many of us want to keep the classic view … I'll vote for the classic view.
Why not make the new view the 903 step complicated option?
Don't assume everyone is IT in your audience: "What is the "web site's footer" as mentioned by OP, please?", "How, exactly, do I "store a cookie"?"
Focus on search: SD searching has never worked correctly, probably why we get so many reposts.

Check out comment 227 for a chrome extension to automatically redirect to Slickdeals Classic.
^the bookmarklet and the extension uses twice the bandwidth since it need to go to the modern view first, then redirect to classic view on each page. Think about people on Mobile/ComCast with a data cap.

FORK IT! make a classic.slickdeals.net for the classic view. Unless of course your advertisers have more say than your visitors.

How, exactly, do I "store a cookie"? A Google search suggests plastic wrap or a cookie jar.

Makes sense and hope the updates go well!
Much appreciated that not only will the Classic View still be available, but with several ways to get there.
And you're letting the community know before implementing updates.

All too often these types of updates are mismanaged and frustrate the end users which leads to increased customer service demands for the business and dissent in the community. I applaud Slickdeals being proactive and outlining options, while continuing legacy support!

This sucks!!! The new layout is, and has always been WORTHLESS; 1 post takes up half of the screen, and Searching? Give me a break!!! Hopefully FW, gets an update, and I can switch over!!

Edited to ad that, I usually don't bother logging in anymore, since posts just RANDOMLY dissappear/ get deleted, if a mod? I guess, does not like it!! I understand personal attacks against other users or racism, but personal opinions about a deal, should be left alone!!

Given the choice, I cant imagine anyone gravitating towards the newer UI. I'm sure several developers have poured their heart and soul into user experience, but you guys seriously need to take a step back and realize how convoluted the new site features have made the experience.

Also, please get rid of that front-page header that hijacks the thread via activity feed. I dont need to be reminded that a deal has gone front-page every goddamned time I click on a link in my activity feed

Thank you Smilie
