Because a lot of them are probably still paying off their student loans from medical school.

I've been working in the ED now for 13 years. Still have the same stethoscope that I bought in medical school. Just get it engraved and use the Littman name tag thing, and you'll be fine.

And those hospital disposables SUCK for actually listening to anything important. They ARE good for the patients in isolation though. Especially the ones with TB. Or scabies.

Gonna be working in the ER and apprehensive to invest in a new stethoscope because I know I may place it down and it will disappear. Any advice?

Disposable provided by the hospital.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can just replace the connector tubing from the earpiece to the diaphragm? The one I have is so stiff already...

you can also get a thing that connects it to your clothing like quilters use for their scissors or some use for id tags.

Is it a littman? If so send it back to them, they will check/fix everything for a small fee ($30-40) I sent my littman master classic II back with a snapped tube and diaphragm that was peeling off and got it back looking like new for $40. (It's $100+ new)
