Convert your Sears/Kmart gift cards to Amazon, Ebay etc YMMV InStoreOnly Liquidator ran stores.

The kmart and sears are both closing in my town around march 24th. Since I had $240 in Sears gift cards (purchased as $100 for $80 using discover cashback) I went in to see what I could spend it on. I decided to try a gift card even though in the past that has NOT worked. I picked up an Amazon $50 gift card and tried it at the register. It went through with no issues.

Rinse, lather, repeat for the remaining cards till I had to pay $10 on the last one to round up to the $50.

Hope someone finds this useful. They have a wide selection of gift cards. Discovercard is still selling $100 for $90 Sears/kmart including e-certs and 10% off Amazon or Ebay is still very good.

Would be helpful to know if the liquidator is running that store already. When they close a store, a liquidator is brought in to manage the closure. If they have the big signs that say EVERYTHING MUST GO! 30% OFF EVERYTHING! That's the liquidator running things. That might explain the gift card policy departure.
Those signs WERE visible throughout the store.

I've had success too, just depends on the cashier and if they have been brainwashed by management to not accept.

That always puzzled me, if the register accepts it, why do some stores override it? To name a few: Gamestop, Sears, and Toysrus (before it became a corp policy).

I am not so certain management has everything to do with it, I have tried to use sywr points and gc before thinking it would go through, while others believed either would work its the cashiers/managers refusing. I found that not to be the case, in every attempt the cashiers had no issues scanning and trying to get it to work but the system just would not allow it giving an error this item/transaction does not qualify. Tried at both Sears and K neither would work gc nor points alone on third party gc nor when combined with a physical item and this was just within the month as well as back to last Dec.Will have to see if it works at a store closing, it would make more sense for the liquidators to get rid of everything to get more pocket change...definitely have to test this out...tbc...dun dun Dunnnnn

my sears store is not closing and my sears store ALWAYS accept sears gc to purchase 3rd party gcs; never ever been questioned. in fact, my gc number printed on a piece of paper, they input the numbers, and it works; they just say bye have a nice day. i have one more sears gc left. btw, my sears store is not yet closing.

Interesting have you tried using sywr points to buy 3rd party gc or even another Sears gc for that matter

Can anyone else confirm this only works at liquidated stores?

i know for a fact that:

1. you can use a sears gift card to purchase any 3rd party gift card. the registers allow the transaction but it is frowned upon by management. Because of this, some stores/associates may not agree to do the transaction.

2. you can not use shopyourway points to buy any type of gift card, be it sears or 3rd party.

I have tried both and neither worked at either K or S.
Tonight I tried sywr points on 3rd party gc at a closing store and did not work. Will try a gc when I get one but I have tried multiple times and #1 does not work either though the cashiers try their best just does not work in our neck of the woods

^it might even be based on the person. today, i got the stiff-arm from some young kids working in the store. i have one more sears gc left i have to get rid of and then i'm done with them. should have used them all at once but i've done this half-dozen times before with success and then i run into these kids who think they know it all so they tell me it is against store policy and if someone has done it for me before (let you buy a 3rd party gc with a sears gc) then they violated store policy.
