PSA: Target.com ends combining RedCard 5% discount with gift cards for purchases

As many people are probably aware, Target.com allowed you to make purchases paying fully with gift cards, but the 5% off from the RedCard would still apply despite $0 being charged to the card. I placed a few orders online and the 5% now immediately calculates based off of how much is left over is owed after gift cards are subtracted. If you cover the balance owed in gift cards, the 5% is removed. Therefore, purchases online are now treated the same way as if you paid fully with gift cards in store. This is definitely a bummer.

Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. I ran a search and nothing came up. I do not create many posts so please do not butcher me if I screwed something up. Just trying to inform people.

If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This little oversight by Target was awesome because you could further your savings by using discounted gift cards.

Booooooo. Booooo I say.

Just keep it for free shipping (until they'll end that too).

That is a shame as the stacking @ the website was part of what made it slick.

I wish they would add some sort of benefit for the faster shipping methods they list at checkout. Their premium and express shipping costs are outrageous, especially if you'd want to order multiple items. Not ever going to compete with Amazon in that department with their current offerings.

Yeap, it made Target a go-to for online shopping when you consider they offer in-store pickup and some price-matching too.

Yes, after Walmart started to offer some sort of flat rate shipping (like prime), it is kind of strange Target did not follow the same pattern.

Would think that partial GC payments (and RedCard) would still work but will have to wait on my next order to confirm.

I already alluded to this in the original post. It does.

Bummer, I didn't realize this happened so recently. I put off ordering something for a while, but discovered this today while trying to stack them. Ah well. Thanks for the confirmation.
