I have been investigating the new Orbi AC3000 Tri-band Mesh whole home wi-fi system as it has such great reviews on Amazon, and I see now that Amazon has added a bundle with the new Netgear CM1000 ultra fast cable modem for $89.99 savings in a bundle purchase.
I have been wondering when to pull the trigger on buying this Orbi system so now with the $89.99 savings on the cool bundle this looks like the time to buy with a solid deal price here.

Fake spot grade for the exact product linked in the first post, not the products some wish were linked:

Big fat F [fakespot.com]

That means a majority of the reviews for this overpriced over-hyped router are fake.

But Fakespot is "fake" we're told. So let's look at Newgg. Surely their reviews aren't fake, right?

Newegg reviews: notice nearly all of them disclose they were given the product FREE - these are paid reviews [newegg.com]

Bottom line. Buyer beware. Netgear pushed this overpriced, overhyped product onto the market and enticed good reviews with free goods.

I've seen some great reviews on this product. Nice to see it bundled with a cable modem.

Unless you live in a castle or something, why would you spend $500 on routers? Am I missing something? I must be.

Speed and range. Lots of people have been searching for something that truly covers the whole home for years, and gets them 50mbps to the outer reaches. Orbi mesh finally solves that for a lot of people, so $500 is a small price to pay (i guess) for streaming video in your hot tub Smilie

I don't understand the appeal... Don't wifi repeaters accomplish the same thing?

Nope. They create separate networks and your device doesn't do a good job disconnecting and re-connecting to the best device. Plus extenders have a lot of signal degradation. Mesh solves all of that with a dedicated backhaul and seamless roaming.

if you believe that, then higher end network equipment is definitely not for you...it's like saying doesn't 3G get me internet on my smartphone, why do I need 4G?....SMH

Actually very different. Google uses AC1200 with no backhaul. Orbi uses AC3000 with dedicated backhaul.
