I think we are more hoping that Intel gets true competition with ryzen so that they drop prices drastically to try to keep business and be competitive with AMD.

Seems like a great price, but as everyone else is saying-- waiting for prices to drop if the early benchmarks on Ryzen are accurate.

If Ryzhen lives up to hype, the pentium is dead with the APUs having a RX460+ equivalent built in. Excellent gaming and 4K video engine.

Gaming is less dependent on CPU. Been for years. Ask 2600k owners. Not sure about CAD

well in that case, any modern setup will be a huge leap. I would want a modern platform for things such as M.2 slots and USB-C for workstation usage. To be honest, if you mainly use it for productivity, get an Kaby Lake i5.

i also have an i3 530 desktop, and that does do OK in the cad software i use, but its still not as fast as my work computer, which is a 3rd gen i5. i would say that 3rd gen i5 is plenty fast enough, at least for the size of models i do.

Nope, Sandy Bridge can't keep up with Kaby Lake at the high end.
