Stick layout is awful. I would go with an xbox one controller
For the price of a few sets of Duracell alkaline AA batteries you can get some decent rechargeable AA's and stop throwing them away. Smilie
Get eneloop (not pro). Best batteries in the world.

Know any reason why this regular bluetooth controller wouldn't work on iphone or ipad?

From the Q/A -

Question: Will this work with IOS at all?
Answer: Yes it works with IOS , it works flawlessly both with my iPad and Samsung Note 5

reviews say its mediocre. I wanted one for a while and reviewed it extensively.

the first generation Amazon fire tv controller is the best Bluetooth Android controller imo

From what I read there is an iOS version of this control and a windows/android one. But if the one actually works "flawlessly" with my iPhone I might just buy it. Universal control! Nice

Its all about preference If you game on a XBox One, then you wouldn't like a controller layout like this. I game on the PS platform and this works for me.

Have one of these, really enjoy the buttons and everything, layout is good for retro games as the sticks aren't as accurate. Worst part is using AA batteries instead of rechargeable

bought a wii u and hacked it and installed legit copies of emulator roms from Nintendo to relieve childhood favorites..

it was a 60 dollar mistake! good price now.
