TU. I wanted to give OP rep but the link isn't there. worship If it weren't for all of the negative votes I might not have got one. As OP stated $17 and free shipping. I've always wanted to try one of these made in China knives with their premium steel. No bolster knife is always a plus. See how this compares to my Shun VG10 and Tojiro VG10 (real Japanese knives).

I don't need another knife. I got the knife because they advertise the type of steel and rockwell hardness which is extremely rare for knives from China. Also satisfy curiosity. Most companies just slap a logo on it call it german high carbon steel which tells you nothing about the product. I don't like to buy things based on people's perception of the company. I buy things based on specifications.

The iMarku I received has an unusable edge profile. The belly was too steep. The flat edge near the heel wasn't even parallel with the board. They removed too much of the heel away. I've never seen and edge profile this bad. The spine at the heel is also too thick for this to be a premium knife. The taper from heel to tip is poor. The factory edge was equally bad. The edge was rolled to one side like they didn't even bother honing it at the factory. Edge bevel was inconsistent. The tip was also rounded. It took a lot of work on whetstones to reshape the bevel near the tip. I also spent a lot of time rounding the spine and choil. I had to create a new consistent bevel across the entire edge. The wood handle is not flush with the bolster and heel. There is nothing I can do to fix this.

The steel did feel very hard and rigid while I was working on it with the whetstones. The steel they used is probably 7CR17MoV at a Rockwell Hardness Scale of HRC 58-60 as advertised. So the edge retention is pretty good. But too bad the grid, edge profile, and fit makes the knife unusable. This knife might be good for people that have poor knife skills where the terrible edge profile won't bother them. So I do understand why "some people" would give this knife 5 stars on Amazon.

I think they liquidated defective units at the $17 price point thinking people won't bother returning because of the return shipping cost. It looks like they also re-badge this knife under different brands. I use this knife to cut watermelons, pineapples, or anything that might chip my real Japanese knives. I value this knife at $10. The edge profile is inexcusable. I'm not mad at the purchase. In fact, it was exactly as I expected. I got what I paid for. I purchased this knife out of curiosity for Chinese steels and heat treatment.
