I've had the brand and model for over 10 yrs and it still works great. Can only use up to level 2-3, anything higher and it feels like it's going to take the flesh out of your gums. Very powerful. Paid about the same price 10 yrs ago.

I was able to pick one up last time, but was not expecting it to be so loud. Are they supposed to be noisy or did I get a defect?

These are great for those with braces. Regular flossing is better for those without.

I believe they are loud. I place a rag under mine.

I had one of these old ones I got second hand (cleaned the hell out of it) and it was great just like this one. this one weighs about half as much so only the will tell. weight is not everything unless your talking about power supplies. this also takes up less space than the previous old wide body style.

I did the dentist brochure rebate (it's like a year long for the purchase time frame) and went through fine.

it's probably normal but I would not classify them as loud. I think it's more or less you have a pump within 1 foot of your ear doing its thing. I could see how someone would think it's loud but I personally think it's not loud unless you are using it in a dead silent home.
