These are pulled out from lens kits, stores sell lenses seperately for a higher mark-up...

Absolutely. The whole "Authorized Dealer" thing amounts to making people feel better about themselves for paying an extra premium for a 1 year warranty.

As mentioned before, this is a grey market "import", but the only difference will be the charger which has to plug into a chord instead of the US version which has a built in wall socket that flips out. If you can't deal with that, just find a separate ebay/amazon deal on a US wall charger.

IMO, these are extremely safe purchases even if they are from an "unauthorized dealer".
These pro level cameras are WAY overbuilt. They will last for years. The warranty you get from buying from an authorized dealer only lasts 1 year. If Canon, Nikon, et al. actually offered 3+ years on their warranty, I might change my tune about this. A 1 year warranty for these types of products are really next to useless, IMO.

Buy it and use the hell out of it for the first 30 days to make sure it works and file a return claim with during that time if something goes wrong. If it lasts the first month, the chances of something going wrong between months 2 - 11 are slim. And if it does, it's not the end of the world: just send it to Canon and they'll fix it for a reasonable price. Their service and repair center is excellent.

I ordered this from the same a couple weeks ago. The unit I got was a standalone "Body Only" box. It was not part of a body + lens kit with the lens pulled out. You might get something that was part of a kit, but this hardly matters. Nobody is buying a high end camera for the box it comes in.
