I find it inreresting that you can buy actual chicken and rice for less per lb in quantities simalar to this dog food.

Just make your own dog food.

Chicken is around 1.29/lb
Prepared rice is less than .20/lb
Carrots are .79/lb
Eggs are 1.59/12
Oatmeal is .59/lb
Add other sale vegtables as needed or swap meat for variety or additional fat content.

All in a crock pot cooked in 4 hours. Lasts a week. Less than a dollar a pound and much better for your dog. Your dog has one short life. Make it the best one possible.

Blue is garbage... They were caught lying about ingredients, then had several recalls, then it was rumored they were sold to Mars or Purina..

I would look over the ratings and content [dogfoodadvisor.com] of this line of dog food Many of them are crap for your dog.
Some as low as 2 stars. Depending on the life stage you are buying for there are much healthier alternatives.

I used to use blue buffalo, but as someone else said a lot of recalls, I spent hundreds of dollars on their products and they just passed the blame on to their supplier even though I sunk hundreds of dollars into their food over the years and never got reimbursed for the inferior product I paid them for. I now just go to tractorsupply. They have 4health which is 4 stars on dogfoodadvisor.com. This particular BB is also 4 stars, but they also have 3+3.5 stars dry food as well. The 4health is $1-1.05/lb depending on the flavor. Once in a while a slickdeal pops up for BB bringing it down to $1/lb but I got tired of waiting around for slickdeals on it. You can't really give your dog random brands of food, you need to consistently feed them the same stuff and it seems like I was running out faster than a SD would come around, so now I have to drive about 5 miles to tractor supply, but I know it's there and I know it's $1/lb. So if you have a local tractor supply, it might be wise to switch, mine is a little out of the way but I try to stop there when I'm in the area.

Edit: The lamb flavored 4health is only 3 stars. The salmon or chicken is 4stars

They just announced huge recall. Blue is a marketing company. They don't have factory. I don't understand why they are still top selling pet food company even though they had a lot of recalls and lawsuits, class actions.

I'm not surprised as raw materials should generally always be cheaper than anything prepared. once you tack on business expenses/profit margins that the company needs to cover, you get their inflated prices.

that said, how do you cook the eggs all together with your mix in a Crock-Pot? are all those ingredients all that's needed to keep the dog healthy? I wouldn't mind saving money as well as give the wife's dog something tastier to eat if it just takes a little more work on my part. (we currently use totw dog food mixed with a red Barn beef food roll for flavor and he has his days where he's picky..)
