I'm looking to start rebuilding my credit to buy a home down the road. I want a cc that has good rewards and am looking for recommendations. Does one stand above the rest? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi there,

First, I am moving this to our finance forum as it may get better results there.

Second, what type of rewards are you interested in? Travel? Cash back? You mention rebuilding credit...that may limit what cards you qualify for. Have you checked your score?

"This whole.. I have XX company so my pee pee is 2" longer talk is hilarious. Who cares what company is cheapest, best, etc. Pick the company and plan you want and keep it to yourself."

The only accurate answer to this question is "it depends on what you want to use the rewards for".

question is this worth the apply? got an offer from amex for business gold card, 75k points for signing up, no annual fee the first year, I think no spending limit. pretty good? just cancel after 1st year? also gift card I guess is the best bang for the buck for points? oh and it's spend 5k in first 3 months to get 75k points, if you buy costco gift card/cash card, does it count? thanks

This is tantamount to asking: How long is a piece of string?

The best way to approach it is to carry a wide variety of cards and use whichever card gets you the most bang for your buck for a given transaction. Of course you have to have a good enough credit score to be able to get the necessary cards to maximize your savings.

I'd be much more interested in cash back. I don't particularly want to carry more than one cc so I just want something that will give back.

Realistically that is the best that card will offer. Yes on the other questions. Spend is spend

if you haven't applied for or closed cards recently..

start with Chase for 5/24 reasons
the non-Chase cards can come later

awesome, wasn't really sure if gift card purchase will count toward the first 3 months purchase min for the points, thanks for clearing that up!

when I cancel it after the 1st year to avoid annual fee, it will just ruin the credit score some, other than that not much right? thanks for the help

or Citi double cash back MasterCard.

I'd pair either of those with a Sam's MasterCard 5% gas unlimited and 3% travel and restaurants

I'm surprised no one has said American Express Blue Cash Preferred. 6% back on groceries, 3% on gas, 3% on department stores and 1% on everything else. This is one of our go-to cards... not too hard to get approved I don't think. Wife and I each got approved back when our score was in the high 600s, low 700s.
