Why is the model defective? amazon average is 4 stars, that's good, i don't think there is a model that doesn't have lemon units, and some people rate 1 start for dumb things like "ups no touchscreen", "windows 10 X problem". "i'm too dumb to use the machine".

most amazon reviewers are computer illiterate idiots. I wouldn't trust them at all.

This is a great laptop with very good battery life, with a few minor quibbles, and Asus is a great manufacturer.

Check out this review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus...710.0.html

That review site is known for being extremely hard on laptops, and even with their criticisms they still say it's a definite buy.

I bought this from amazon a month ago "used - very good" for $611 + tax, it was practically new in every way. I bought it to replace the highly-rated HP spectre x360 because the spectre's trackpad is horrendous - it's very loud and clicks all the time when you use it (not even clicking, just moving).

The only issue I've had is the fan, so I recommend installing Notebook Fan Control [github.com] to set specific ranges for the fan. (the fan is actually really quiet, im just extra sensitive to noise and need dead silence).

It's fast (same specs are HP spectre x360), it's lighter (2lb 11oz), it's cheaper, and it has more useful ports (2x USB-A, SD card reader). Highly recommend.

Did it come with the 1 year warranty when you bought it from Amazon Warehouse Deals?

As I understand it, warehouse deal products don't come with the same warranty - just the regular amazon return policy (30 days). I would recommend retail if it's important to you.

Hey thanks a lot for showing me Notebook Fan Control. I am the same, I get very annoyed by fan noise also. If you don't mind sharing, what are your configurations for the fan? I am not really sure which preset or what to set it as. Thanks!

First I tried out the various Asus models, just to find one that worked. I settled on Asus Zenbook Flip UX360UAK

Then I did a "save as" to create my own custom config. The only thing I touched was the "fan configuration" -> "temperature thresholds" to increase it a bit (so it would start the fan at a higher temp).

Pic attached for my settings, you can obviously adjust to your own needs. One thing to note is that it seems to be limited to increments of 12.5% - so you can only have values 0%, 12.5%, 25%, 37.5%, 50%, 62.5%, 75%, 87.5%, and 100%.
