Hisence is far from a "mystery" China brand. They recently purchased Sharp a respected Japanese TV manufacturer that had recently purchased Toshiba. This has made them a powerhouse in the TV industry. Their TV's have performed well in the market and have proven to be produce Hi quality video performance and very good reliability. As for HDMI versions they are HDMI 1.4a compatible with ARC (Audio Return Channel) and video response time is on par with Samsung and LG. Their hi quality allows them to offer the best warranty available without getting ripped off for an extended warranty. Overall it is a fine 4K TV especially for this price point.

Who is down voting all of these comments? A few of us appear to be in very bad moods today.

FWIW

I purchased this TV in Feb for $760 OTD. I have been using it a lot since then. I will give you a general thought about it, as well as a more in depth analysis after using it for nearly a month, nearly every day. (Skip to the end if all you are interested in are the cons)

General thought is this. Comparing this TV to other TVs in it's class this is the one to buy. You will be hard pressed to find a 65" 4K TV w/HDR functionality, smart features etc anywhere near this price.

Could you spend more and get a comparable TV from a better known manufacturer? Yes of course you could. Could you spend hundreds more and upwards to double to get a TV that is better across the board in all aspects? Obviously that is the case. I compare deals as much as possible apples to apples. $800 65" 4K w/ HDR and smart.

Real world use

My TV is in my basement, I used it to watch Amazon, Netflix, OTA, and play XBOX 1s. Watch a TON of sports.

Gaming - I really enjoy it for gaming, its a huge screen, I can't see a noticeable drop off in terms of lag and performance of input from my vizio that received a 9 for lag score by Rtings. I am not an intense gamer but I do play near daily for an hr or so. I play Black OPs3, Forza Horizon 3, as well as Gears of War all on the XBOX 1s

HDR Gaming - There is a slight improvement on depth when gaming in HDR. There is however an issue with this TV and perhaps others as well when playing in HDR in that the xbox 1s dims the screen for HDR a lot. HDR is misunderstood by most and from my research it is meant to be viewed in near complete darkness. This TV is entry level HDR, you are not going to get the benefits of HDR that you would get from a ks8000. You will get some however. GoW 3 in HDR looks really good but you will have to adjust and tweak both the in game settings as well as the TV settings. I notice things like moonlight off of distant buildings and the way candle light looks a bit more realistic. Forza is a pain in the rear to get the settings right for HDR not sure if its because of the TV or the game. I do notice that for whatever reason HDR in theater mode looks better than game mode but it introduces lag. Pick your poison.

OTA- My ota content looks very good. 480 even looks pretty good for 480 on a 65" screen. 720 looks good but is a bit soft. 1080i looks very good but also is a touch soft. 1080i is easily made better by adjusting sharpness.

Smart Features from TV - I think they are very good HARD WIRED. They run very smoothly, 4k content looks great from Amazon, Netflix and VUDU. They don't seem to do HDR from the native apps. I use my XBOX for that and again.

HDR Movies and TV shows (Netflix xb1s) - The only source I have for HDR content. I run into the dimming issue. Put your TV in theater mode for HDR content and adjust the settings accordingly. Watching HDR content in a very bright room from the XBOX1s may be a challenge.

Motion Blur 60hz vs 120hz - Most people do not understand what 60hz and 120hz actually means. You can have a 60hz TV that has very little to no motion blur, you can have a 120hz TV with mild motion blur. Motion blur is a combination of factors from hz refresh rate to response time in MS. This TV has 9ms response time. It does not suffer from motion blur in 9/10 viewing situations.

I watch sports on it and they look great. I watched Football, Hockey, Nascar, Boxing, Baseball and basketball. They all look great, I only noticed motion blur once and that was during the boxing match the camera whipped around to the corner and back to the fighters.

The 60hz vs 120hz comes into play when speaking about judder. Especially from 24p content. Again there is some judder present on Blu Rays and sweeping panoramic scenes.

Overall Positives of the TV

Upscaling is very good
Entry level HDR
Smart features are very smooth
Sound is pretty good, it actually has BASS if you want it
Menu and adjusting is very simple
The OTA guide is pretty cool, each channel tells you whats on with detail
Gaming looks great, very little lag in gaming mode

Overall Negatives

When completely black, IE switching between inputs there is blotchiness/clouds whatever you want to call it. This is a problem of all edge lit screens. It is noticeable to a higher or lesser degree depending on the TV. Even the KS8000 suffers from it as it is edge lit.

You can nearly completely negate this by turning your backlight down, and lowering your brightness level to 50 or lower. It is hardly noticeable if at all noticeable when watching actual content.

Banding - My panel as well as others suffers from banding. Another issue of edge lit screens. Again noticeable more the higher your backlight is up. As my settings are now it is hardly noticeable.

Judder - The TV does suffer from slight Judder and nothing you do will make it 24p judder free. Some people dont see judder. I do. I am actually very sensitive to it. Even so it doesnt bother me much.

In summary bang for your buck this TV can't be beat. I was going to purchase the 8000 series in this size and I simply couldn't bring myself to spend $1600 even though the TV is better across the board than this Hisense. It is not $800 better across the board. If you absolutely want a 65" TV w 4k/hdr smart features and you absolutely do not want to stretch your budget to get it. This is the TV for you.

Side note I have 6 yrs of warranty on this 4 through Hisense and 2 through Citi.

stoked on mine. Harmony added it a few weeks ago. Works and looks great. Would like a few more HDMI ports but I guess 4 should do.

HDR10 with low latency in this size, nothing else really comes close without spending a good bit more. 4 year warranty is part of the US brand building they're going for.
