How is this different than Pandora One? Why is it worth the price hike?

Pandora is late to the game. Not sure what they were thinking with their limited selection before. Let's see.

I have a feeling that this is one of those things where if you wait a few months (if you're not currently paying), you'll probably be able to snag a 3 - 6 month trial (as they try desperately to bring on new users).

6-month trial will be available for Pandora Plus subscribers for now, various reports saying that 30 or 60-day trials will be available for others

Yeah. And what I'm saying is that if you wait, (and you are not paying currently), you will also probably get that 6 month trial or something around it. I got 4 - 6 months trials to Google Music and Tidal.

Reason I currently have Pandora... it's about $50/year (about $4/month) and my radio can play it directly. At $10/year I see no reason why someone would not simply use any of the many other services that have been offering what Pandora will be offering. Amazon Prime is about $10/month and offers songs... but they then offer Prime shipping and movies. Google offers their music but it includes YouTube Red for the same price.

Hmm, wonder if i can downgrade back to One once the trial is over, or if they are phasing out One.

My two years of 30/year prepaid just ended months ago...pandora is my favorite interface/system, but won't pay 10 a month for it

If they phase it out, they are going to lose customers

Neither will I, but I'd be willing to listen to it free for 6 months, as long as I have the option of going back to One.

I'm still using the free 6 months of Tidal deal. It's good that Pandora has the same catalog as Spotify. I notice some albums that I like, missing from Tidal.

They were a putting out a different product. It was radio focused vs full catalog on demand. Their radio stations are still, far and away, better than the competition, so now they're adding the full catalog on demand on top of that with the new Premium service.
