Kodiak Canvas Tent (Deluxe model), 10x14', $400 using gift cards at Cabelas, free ship to store

Edit: The gift card deal at ebay is back on and the tents are still on sale.

Cabela's currently has the top-rated Kodiak canvas deluxe 10x14' tent [cabelas.com] on sale for $500 (normally $650). But if you prepurchase 5 of the Cabela's gift cards that are on sale right now ($80 for a $100 gift card) in another SD thread and purchase your tent with these by 3/22 (UPDATE: the sale is still on as of 3/23), then you can get your cost down to $400 + free ship to store (they say they offer $5 shipping right now, but for this heavy item, they add a $19 surcharge). Note that in the gift card deal, they send out the gift cards by regular mail, so there is a chance you won't receive them in time, but I'd think you could easily resell them for what you paid for, if you want to take that chance.

Other sizes of Kodiak tents are also on sale: the 10x10 [cabelas.com] for $399 and the truck tent [cabelas.com]for $275.

Note that the Kodiak tents rarely go on sale for this low of price. They are for car camping because they are super heavy, but super sturdy as well. The reviews will tell you all you need to know and there are many video reviews on YouTube as well.

If you don't get your gift cards in time or it's too late to order them, you can still get a pretty good deal on your tent by having Competitive Edge Products [competitiveedgeproducts.com] price match Cabela's, and as a bonus, they say they'll beat the price by $20 and throw in a free tarp to match your tent. Or I think you can opt out of the free tarp and they'll credit you for it. Get the details on the price match in last year's SD thread about a similar deal. Also no sales tax here for those living outside of Utah.

I own 3 models of the Kodiak Canvas tents.

The 10'x14' model is HUGE. It also weighs 80 lbs. This is a good price if you need to car camp with a family of 8 or want to camp with your car inside the tent with you.

Great tent! I own the 10x14 and while heavy, is quick to set up, as durable and well made as you can find, and keeps the water out. Spent a week fishing in the Hoh Rainforest in February...rained 24/7 and in the upper 30s...a little buddy heater and a solid cot/sleeping bag and I stayed warm and dry through the nights. I paid $500 and it is worth it.

I own the 10x10 version. As others have said, easy setup despite the weight. Absolutely incredible 4 season tent.

I was browsing these tents at Competitive Edge, and noticed they have the VX 10x10 model (better windows etc) plus tarp for $460. Then a popup appeared that said "add to the cart today to see an additional discount". I added to the cart and the price was reduced to $390. This is a super slick deal if you can get it; a nicer tent and ground tarp for $10 less than the one at Cabela's. YMMV, of course.

On a similar note - the 10x14 VX model w/tarp is listed at $540, but is reduced to $510 when added to the cart. That is $10 higher than the deluxe model from Cabela's, but is a better model and includes the tarp.

Good find! That model, with its extra side windows, would be good for those who camp a lot in hot weather.

Good to hear, since I'm going to order one. So a Little Buddy heater kept it warm enough in the upper 30s? Was planning on getting one of those too, but thought a Big Buddy would be overkill.

I assume you treat it b4 use and intermittent throughout season?

They are pretreated with something called HydraShield, and most reviewers report that they never have to redo the water proof treatment. They are an upgrade over most old canvas tents.

I wish I could duplicate this deal. I love my 10x14, but wished I had also kept the 10x10. If I could get the ZX for $390 if jump on that for sure.

Looks like a great tent. I wonder how long Cabelas will have these on sale?

Seems pretty pricey for a tent as compared to a Coleman Montana or Wenzel for sub $200... but I guess it's definitely worth the extra couple hundred depending on the weather/conditions that you camp in. I'm in FL, so the lightweight bare-bones stuff is always fine for us being that it never really gets too cold. However, we have been talking about camping out of state more. So these heavier duty tents would be something for us to think about.

No comparison, I have both style tents and much prefer the Canvas tent even in warmer weather, although that's why I do want the deluxe with the big side windows,

I didn't know they still made canvas tents -- that's great. I have a REALLY old one (40 years?) in the garage that I'm going to put up this summer to see if it's still viable. It's a giant which weighs at least 75 lbs, not including the poles. Fingers crossed that it's still usable. Smilie
