if I solve one side, the others are messed up. if I address the other sides, the first one is back to where it started.

haha I was like that for a long time during pre-internet era. I found out recently that you will not be able to solve a rubiks cube if you do not know the move patterns or algorithm behind it. And it is actually not considered cheating Smilie. Unless of course you are a super genius.

that's the kicker. I am a genius, not a super genus though. lol.

kidding apart, I checked you tube videos too but nah couldn't solve it. it's amazing how it's constructed that despite all those moving parts, they stick together.
