Amazon has an EVGA 1060 for $199. Lowest price I've seen on a 1060 so far, lowest this product has been according to camelcamelcamel.

I know when comparing Nvidia and AMD it's like comparing Intel and AMD, you got to know what numbers to look at. So I'm thinking this is not a great deal because you can get an 8GB RX480 for either the same price or lower. But what am I missing here?

The 8GB RX480 is a better for $180 or less AR.

My main hesitation on the 480 has been finding a good make of the card. Several of the ones I've looked at had multiple complaints about noise, instability, or throttling.

It's a 150w TDP card, you'll be fine. Just look for one that fits your budget. You don't know what hot/loud/unstable is until you have one of those GTX 480s from 7 years ago.
