Always a tough choice with this vs. going with a third party agent (i.e. Squaretrade).

On one hand, AppleCare makes repairs fairly simple by getting everything done by Apple but on the other....AppleCare does not cover accidental damages which a Squaretrade warranty would.
ants might do the trick, but then you'll have to find a way to clean those off (i'm still dealing with that)
3 years from the time of the computer purchase. This extends the warranty by 2 years, in addition to the existing 1 year warranty all new/refurbished macs come with when purchased from an apple authorized reseller/store. You have up to one year from the initial purchase date to purchase the extended applecare

Is it 3 years from the time of purchase of AppleCare, or the Mac itself? I'm wondering if I can get this, and use it on a MacBook purchase I don't plan on doing for another few months

Thanks for the info! So just to confirm, I could buy this now, and apply it to a new MacBook Purchase in a few months?

Yes but there really is no reason to wait. Your machine includes 90 days phone support but this extends it for the full year on top of the two years extra you're paying for. Most people don't actually care about the phone support but its something to consider.

I think the answer is no, but I currently have a 2015 MBP currently under Applecare until 2018. Can I buy this and extend it another 3 years?

Squaretrade doesn't give you phone support. SQT also limits the amount of repairs they'll pay for, so if you hit your ceiling your SOL.

I thought the last 17" was made in 2011, how would this cover it?

Can you purchase Apple Care from a different retailer and at a different time than the computer purchase?

EDIT: Looks like yes. Answered my own question, lol.
