That video is more than a year old. Is there any reason to believe that it's the same model as the one that's being offered here today?

It is a different model, this model uses a different controller - Phison S11 Series -I have this Torch SE in my laptop - works great.

Based on a pic in the link above, the drive he bought was the le, which used the phison s10 chip.

I don't know enough about the chipsets to make an educated determination about whether the chipsets difference resolved the problem, but you're correct that it isn't the same drive or chip.

all that said, if he bought over 100 drives at once, it's possible that he just got a bad batch. everything I've found online is generally positive about these drives.

Here's the link for that drive: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandi...Id=5394603

I'd rather go for the Sandisk, myself.

Is there a Crucial (of comparable capacity) on sale for around the same price somewhere?

Really bad experience with Patriot SSDs.

Patriot cables, Patriot DDR3/4 memory and Patriot USB drives are second to none. They just cant seem to get their SSDs rights.

Stay away.
