You could certainly argue that is a better value. But saying similar specs is a bit of a stretch, weaker CPU, 1/2 the storage, lower resolution, slight less battery.

I got the ZTE Trek 2 HD for $60, Pretty happy about it. Front facing speakers are great. Will be a difficult choice if this LG is ~$100.

Would only recommend if it was the T-Mobile v521 variant. This one will be locked up tight and wouldn't doubt if LG ends support quickly. v521 at least has unlocked bootloader, TWRP and LineageOS support.

I'm an Android software dev, I picked up a couple of the $60 ZTE from same seller. They are good value at $60 as it seems a stable 64-bit Android built - but not good for rooting/3rd-party ROM.. very likely the ZTE will be stuck on Android 6.

This has a high-res 1920x1200 screen. MAJOR news on this one (LG G Pad V520) is that Android 7.0 is officially available through AT&T. That means multi-window support on this tablet. Surprised the seller specs don't say that: https://www.att.com/devicehowto/t...del=LGV520 -- OP, I suggest you edit your post to say that.

Would this work as a wifi-only device?

Are you in Austin area? What kind of apps do you develop?
Also - one of the key features of this is - has reading mode app (turns screen into sepia tinge/hue I think) is very useful. I love the formfactor and have TmO version. I need to check LineageOS support though.

Definitely.

I have the 16GB version of this I bought through ATT. It's a nice tablet. Has a full-sized USB port at the top, which I love. Speakers could be a little better, but overall I'm happy with it.

cpu is same and lower resolution would be better for apps using this cpu. however worse for movies

Still cannot find a worthy replacement for my N7, this has almost same specs less the CPU, but I can barely notice the difference

yes. Pretty much ANY Android can, it's only the prepaid ones you may have to deal with an annoying signup screen on boot - but this one is fully unlocked.

Florida now. I work at home and can live anywhere - and Austin was getting too expensive (I can live 3 blocks from the beach for 2/3 the price of an apartment in Austin). Left a year ago. Right now I'm working on apps for classic Interactive Fiction text stories like Zork. Which reading is much better on a 8" tablet than a 4" phone Wink

As for LineageOS - this AT&T model is locked down hard on bootloader and root. So I'd say it's plain Android 7 (N, Neugut) - but I've found that 7 is hard to find at a good price. And the appeal to me is the multi-window from Google (and not the non-standard Samsung tablet multi-window). The sepia mode sounds great for my text IF focus - and cool that therapyreject says it has full USB port.

I have the tmobile version of this. Nice little tablet. Android N running on it and battery life is awesome. It's snappy too. I've used the full size USB only a couple times but it's really nice to have. It had a reading more button that changes everything to a mind of greyscale image to be easier on the eyes when reading in the dark. I got it full price from tmobile which was not a slickdeal but so far I don't regret it.
