Does this apply to people who signed up last year?

The contract still says that a prorated early termination fee will apply (last page) so I'm not a lawyer or anything but seems like it's still there. Am I missing something?

It would be so much better if they had no "stinkin" contract to begin with.

Yes to me it seems like it's saying it's still going to cost you any applicable cancellation fees. Hmmm...

Any time there is a material change to the contract, you have the option to opt out of the new contract with no penalty, ie: no termination fee. What the new contract says it's somewhat irrelevant, the only thing that matters is that it changed, and that fact gives you certain rights.

I've been out of contract for 4 years, just kept getting loyalty perks. My only regret is not upgrading two years ago, my gear is dated.. Going with Directv Now for a better deal, grandfathered Go Big with Free HBO.

I was able to cancel without an ETF. I signed up in Jan 2016 just to get the unlimited data for my cellphone and because of that reason they let me out early. I think it is due to the restriction of getting unlimited data only if you have DirecTV being removed and all the carriers offering it now.

yep, wasn't even a real fight for me either. at first they said there would be a cancellation fee, and I said,"Not when you try to change my contract in the middle of it", and then it was easy..
