add a boot SSD and some ram if necessary, and you have banging rig. overclockable CPU (probably not on the stock board), passmark scores in the 11000's, can OC to 4.5 GHz on an x79 board and push passmark to 14000 range. 6 cores 12 threads, good product. only negative I can see is 45 watt higher tdp than newer CPUs and HP is a bunch or farks with their firmware.

Last 12 hours deal is live again and no one talking about it. Is previous deal spam from slickdeals moderator or there is some connection between seller and slickdeals.net?

Just got one of these on eBay a week ago. Similar setup but 16gb ram and no hdd for $275 shipped. Boot up time seem like a regular pc to me.

Can anyone comment on usefulness of this workstation as security camera digital recorder, when using "Blue Iris"? The software manufactures says to use i7 but a lot of people tell a newer generation i5 is good enough, then many say controversial words on usefulness of older but powerful Xeon processors such as this old beast or Dell's T5500. Additionally if anyone can tell me is this is true that E3 is better than E5?

There were many comments in the thread below regarding this topic. I believe they said that it is a great computer for that purpose.

I bought it last time from newegg. Really liking it. Added a Rx480 ($150), 16 ram for $45 and an 480g SSD for $114. I used the computer mainly for excel data and calculation, so the 6 core helps a lot. I played few games like watch dog 2 and csgo with no problem on ultra setting.

I've been thinking of an rx480 build (first computer), and I definitely like your approach. Since I will not be needing it until June, I'm gonna wait out what the market has to offer, but I hope you're setup will still be an available option. Or a good deal on a 4k Windows TV box.

edit: will mainly be pairing with a 4k TV and I don't really play games. I know it's overkill for my purpose. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
