It's kinda weird, there seems to be three versions of this GL502VS laptop: DB71, DS71 and WS71. As far as I can tell, some differences are:

DB71 [microcenter.com] - i7 6700, 180 watt power adapter, 256gb SSD, black/red, $1400
DS71 [microcenter.com] - i7 7700, 230 watt power adapter, 128gb SSD, gold/titanium, $1500
WS71 [microcenter.com] - i7 7700, 230 watt power adapter, 256gb SSD, black/red, $1400

I just bought the DS71 last week, and I'm mildly annoyed that the WS71 seems better and $100 cheaper.

I used the HTC Vive with the DS71 and it works perfectly. So if you're on the fence, I say go for it... it's a powerful machine. Plus, you get all the current gen benefits for $100 cheaper than what I got it for.

I have this laptop with the i7-6700, great machine.
Swap the 1TB mechy. for a SSD and add 16gb RAM for the gusto...
FWIW, I was able to get BB to PM this since I have a MC nearby and wanted to do the 12mo. financing w/BB.

It is about 5.29 LBS. 4-Cell Lithium, so i assume it's gonna be about 4 hrs battery life. I think it is okay deal.

Battery life is ok, I had the silver version of this laptop with the only difference was is this one has 256 ssd instead of 128 and the color. Battery life is about 2 hours. When I turned off g sync and changed to 60 hz it made the battery about 3.5 hours. And I usually had the screen the lowest brightness and no light on keyboard so that plays a factor as well.

The only thing holding me back is a TB3 port, but everything else looks really good for a gaming laptop.

For external graphics TB3 is still quite slow tbh so I wouldn't bother really.

Is this the model with the 230watt PSU? Heard some horror stories about battery draining even when plugged in with the 180watt PSU

If I was in the need for a gaming laptop I would want this. Not sure if I would pay $1400. Definitely bite at $1200.

It depends. It is slower than PCi-Express but you could save money by getting a gaming laptop then hooking up an external graphics card instead of buying a whole PC rig.
