is this a good pc for college student? mostly for internet browsing, checking email, youtube, very minimal gaming.

also, is it possible to only add MS office HOME edition? They only offer Home + BUSINESS at $229. which i don't need.

Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016 [add $229.99]

If you like that fact that this comes with Windows 7 instead of 8.1 or 10, just keep in mind that Windows 7 goes out of extended support on Jan. 14, 2020. Currently you can still upgrade to Windows 10 with the key on your Windows 7 COA, so you may want to consider doing that while you can. Right now that seems like it's a loophole left open on purpose, but that may not be the case in 2020. This is a Skylake (intel sixth generation core) desktop, which Microsoft initially wanted to truncate support for on Windows 7, but they've now committed to supporting it through the end of Windows 7 extended support.

A person will likely never need "extended support" after 2020. I've never used it once on any operating system. I have Windows Update turned off---no more slow system!
P.S. I will never use Win10!!!
Just in case people don't immediately recognize this as bad advice...
This is bad advice.

Bought this last time coupon was alive, it sells out quick. Was disappointed to learn no good video cards will ever fit it, but opted to buy a second stick of 4gb DDR3L RAM to run this in dual channel mode to give the integrated graphics a boost. It's just for my 7 year old kid to play mine craft and internet browse, works well for him to get aquatinted with a PC.

Any evidence to back up your claim????? Ever since they tried installing Win10 without my permission, I'll risk it. On numerous computers. Thanks for playing!!!!!!!!
You're asking for evidence that blocking security patches is bad advice? Logic is my evidence. If you're so afraid of it installing Windows 10, just install a third party blocker like Never10.

No, get them a MBP. Then install WPS Office.

College students often get Microsoft Office for free from their university or at a heavily discounted rate.

No, your "logic" is not evidence that my blocking Windows updates is detrimental to my system. You do realize that I'm not the only one in the world who uses computers, right? i.e. older folks who had it happen before I was aware of it happening to my own computer? You can keep drinking the Kool-Aid though!
I think you forgot the sarcasm tag

I would add a 4gb ram stick to make it 8GB RAM, but over all it should do the job. As stated MS Office would be either free or discounted.

I bought one of these on the last deal and it's getting sent back. Contrary to some of the discussions on SD, the pci-e slot is too close to the power supply so even the low-profile video cards won't fit.
