Im not really sure about these. Why the heck would you have to color them, could that be a cancer causing agent?

I am asking the question not making a statement!any thoughts on this?? I really don't want to lay this down on my fruit trees if there are chemicals embedded in the wood.

Thanks !

Yes these are dyed mulches. Another concern is this mulch is made from ground/crushed scrap wood which also could have been previously treated. I would stick with natural bark mulch (ie Cypress) if using around fruit or veggies.

To those that had used all colors. Which color last longer? I heard that the color fades fast on these...

The quality of the mulch seems to vary by region based on what I've read in previous threads. Here in SE Michigan I've had great luck with it for a couple years now, no garbage mixed in and the color is even (I get the brown) and has not faded at all since last spring.

I picked up some more... but I put down ~15 bags in mid to late summer. All in one area under a tree. They were nice and red for about 2-4 months before really noticeably meh.

I am more interested in weed control and they have been heavy enough to stay put and keep the weeds at bay.

Perfect! Needed to touch up my mulch and was waiting on this deal. 10 bags for $20 bucks. Can't be beat. Thanks powerfuldoppler! I appreciate it. I use the black, btw, and mine last for about a year before it starts to fade, but we get tons of rain down here on the Gulf Coast, and I'm sure that has something to do with it. Nothing made of wood lasts for long outside down here.

We have used the brown for a few years now. It does fade but still looks good enough.

I've never tried the kind from Home Depot simply because we are closer to Lowes. Anyone have thoughts on this vs the HD $2 colored mulch?
