If this is the same as the Sam's Club stuff, this gave me bubble guts like no other protein I've ever tried. The chocolate flavor was too "artificial" tasting for me personally as well.

Protein is the number one thing you need to build muscle. They are cheaper alternates out there though if you are only working out 2-3 times a week.

3 times a week seems about right and advisable for someone just starting weightlifting, say doing a full body split. S/he could benefit from keeping it thrice rather than twice a week though.
