In my last job we had many users with 3+ older laptops not falling apart. However, they were typically Dell or Lenovo business models.
But I can understand your point. That said, I'm interested...

Obsolete as in falling apart. The quality of the components varies greatly.
You can still use them but the pattern is for most people to cycle into a new machine around the 3 year mark.
I am sure...

the list price is meaningless when literally a month after release, they were already on discount at Best Buy. Apple's "list price" is nothing short of a joke especially for this model

Nothing important about it...and no one here cares about "list price".
Glad you even bothered to read the other comments before spouting off with "any doubts about seeing $1000"

Important to remember though that list price on this one is $1500. List price for the basic model of the previous line was $1300. So I doubt you'll ever see $1000.

Some vendors, like B&H and Adorama, do carry 16GB configurations. And they're often cheaper than list price. But you only get *these* kinds of discounts on the base models.

The real Windows equivalent imo is the surface laptop that's going to be released next month.
I have a feeling Apple will be cutting their prices soon to compete with it.
