I've owned one for a year and have run two marathons with it. As for HR, it's around $30 to get set with a strap and sensor. Highly rec, especially if you're new to Garmin / GPS watches.

It can be a little dim. I have the vivoactive hr. You can set the backlight to light it up with a wrist turn. Tradeoff is 3 weeks of batery life for a dimmer screen. You mostly notice it indoors....

I've heard them compared more to kindle paper white screen. Meant for easy viewing in sun where you will definitely be using an activity watch.

I hate how they advertise these watches as having a nice bright, crisp, easy to read screen. None of these Garmin's are good as a smart watch but they do work well as a fitness and GPS running watch.
