How are you cleaning out the plastic cartridge? Buying empty ones and filling yourself? I don't see how you can get all the "nasty" out of it and fill your own.

The way to have these cartridges last longer is to save that removable cap you have to take off to use it. After you run a cleaning cycle take the cartridge out and put the cap back on so the alcohol...

Why would you think that? The original cleaning solution contains mostly isopropanol (and a little n-propanol) - no ethanol.
