Glad to help. To permanently SIM unlock it, you must first activate it with a postpaid Verizon SIM (inactive SIM is fine) with the Apple server (this is device activation, not the same as service...

According to old threads, at least if memory serves, IF you first turn on the phone using a verizon sim it may it will activate on verizon and thus be unlocked. Can anyone else chime in on this?

I feel like if you are on the free BYOD plan and you upgrade at bestbuy they will most certainly screw up your plan. Even Sprint corporate stores can't sell upgrades on the free plan.
